Jungle Habitat race course?

What a fun race. Conditions were tough for sure. I would love to ride up there when its dry. I didn't do well. Our class had its largest showing ever with 12 riders and two DNS's. This was an interesting fact considering the weather and the course for us to have such a big group when it seemed many others had a much smaller showing.

I ended up 8th. I really don't think I did as well as I could have which is disappointing. I lost focus on the last 1/2 of the lap and lost a lot of time to just riding absolute crap. Got to meet UtahJoe which was cool even though he was forced to watch me at my absolute worst. That part of the race where you want to just give up because you are sure you are in last place and getting beat on.

Oh well we live and learn. I really should have pre-rode the course more it would have been helpful. Also had fun chasing Pearl in his 1st race and yelling out "I'm gonna git yah" which unfortunately I never did. Really glad he came out and joined us yesterday. Lunch at the diner with him and Mandi was also awesome. :drooling:

One more week to go I hope weather for Ringwood is much better. Anyone know how the whole awards dinner thing works at the end of the season?

Here are a few pictures from yesterday. I'll have more up on facebook this evening.

Okay maybe I'm confused I thought James was an ex pro roadie. Am I thinking of another top guy in that class? I don't know who anyone is, but I thought there was some ex pro roadie contending with Utah and I thought it was James, my appologies. And props for doing so well on an old bike. I honestly appreciate that difficulty.

Ya luke, you are thinking of Leo. James is the former rally driver.

Nice write up Joe. You did your thing today bro...Here a better flick. See you next weekend at Ringwood.

Awesome thanks. Nice work out there yesterday. You really stepped it up big time this year. Funny thing with that picture, I think combined, there is 600+ pounds on the podium. Dan told me he is over 200, I know im like 197, I think you told me you are in the same range. Good day for clydesdales I guess 😀

4 th place for me so I`m happy, my best finish so far, and I can go to work tomorrow in one piece. Congratulations Kush, that pretty amazing on a SS.

Great Job Willie! You were sharp and your hard work is paying off.
The competition is really strong in our grouping.
None of us was going to catch first or second and we all came out injury free.

Also, thanks for the grilling and commaradarie.
I had a blast.

utah that was a sick write up I'd like to that Nick and Joe for the motivation to keep going and for the push the whole race ! and to the guy who took me out on the first paved downhilll corner please buy me some matte root beer colored gary fisher paint and learn not to full lock your brakes when you need to slow down thanks !

I was just behind you on your inside when that happened. I saw the first guy go down and then you try to avoid it but had no chance. I snagged the brakes jussssst enough to squeak by without eating it. Of course you managed to catch me on the fireroad uphill a few minutes later and proceed to ride half the fireroad in a wheelie. Talk about demoralizing! On an SS no less. Kick ass man.

are you talking about the big cat 3 crash in the beginning? (before that drop into the rock gardens and popped back up) i heard the mayhem behind me, i looked back and no one was around. kind of lost focus, i thought someone was seriously hurt. glad everyone was semi-okay.

Ya, this sums up my race with Bryan either right behind, or right in front of me making me look bad.

It also must be noted that Bryan is on an SS 29er which im told by the so called "technical riders" cannot be wheelied.....Luke you would have shit yourself if you saw what he was doing on the exact same bike as my paragon, but SS.

Oh crap sorry about the confusion. See everyone needs to post here and come on the rides so I can properly figure out who everyone is. I'll still be an ass though 😀

Hi, yes I am back ...sorry! firstly, great job by all that participated yesterday in what must have been very unsavoury conditions! and given that I enjoy laughing at myself and leaving myself open for more ridicule I will try and race the Ringwood h2h provided I can find a baby sitter - I will also bring a case of beer, a smile and a warm handshake for after the race too....I did Moochy this year on a 2 man team (11 days after having my gall bladder removed) and would have done the Darkhorse 40 if it wasn't for the surgery...as for the Moab pics I posted most were of a ride called "The Whole Enchilada" you get shuttled up to 11,000 feet in the mountains / woods, climb up to 12,000 feet and then descend for about 28 miles. The first couple of miles are technical and steep switchbacks and then it mellows for a few miles (where this pic was taken) until you get into the desert / sandstone where you navigate some pretty tough terrain - Upper Porucpine Singletrack, Lower Porcupine Singletrack and Porcupine Rim trail are very technical in places. Below are some pics. They are not unfortunately of me. The first 2 are lines that we all hit. The last one is of Upper Body Bag which was almost too steep to walk down! I took one look at it and said no way. We did manage Lower Body Bag which is similar but without the right angle turn...I would say a 5" or 6" bike is perfect for the ride but plenty we saw were on downhill bikes..ridged singlespeeds not so much....
