The Great Northern Migration Ride, July 26, Mahlon Dickerson

the weather is confusing me

Well, it is wet up here. Not so wet (yet) one wouldn't ride Mahlon. My only concern is that the rocks might be wet (hence slick) and make it a little more of a "challenge".

Forecast calls for T-storms to hit around 1-ish...which should be after we're done. Or at least near the end of we doddle too much.

Looking at the radar track, it appears that some weather *could* hit here before that and screw up the ride.

It is your dice to roll...

so the ride is ending at 1ish?

Depends on the group. It is 17.5 miles. We'll probably average 7-ish when we're rolling. So that is 2.5 hours rolling + stop time + roll-off delay after 10.

There are many bail points if you want to shorten your participation.

Plus, if the consensus is to shorten it, we can do that too...

Running late...I will catch up...yes stretch it Tim 18 miles sounds good but 20 would get two thumbs up

20 is a nice number, but my money is on that the last bit of the ride will be "quiet" as it is...

Because of my wrist I haven't ridden any of the "tougher" stuff at MDR since May, so I'm a little worried about my own ability to make it though this ride 😱 But, I just put 800 mg of Ibruprofen into my body, so for now, I'm good-to-go!

Tim,
Dave and I just got back we were wheels down at 6am.
IT IS WET AND SLIPPERY !!!!!

and did I mention the HUMIDITY !

It was a freakin tough ride, we skipped Cascade and took a bunch of short cuts.

Definitely not a first time friendly kind of ride.

That's not said to scare anyone off , but it's tough out there today for many reasons.

Thanks for the report Stocky. I think it stopped raining only about an hour before you rolled off. Roads around here are 3/4 dried out, so hopefully the slippery rock factor is improving.

The humidity will be tough...

We'll play it by ear...as I've said 1000 times about MDR, there are always options if we need to change things up...

It's definately do able , but I think the "southern" riders will find it pretty tough on a day like today.

Happy Trails .

after being away all day riding yesterday and arriving home around 9pm, the principal has revoked my hall pass. have a good ride folks.

Good luck fellas. Too much going on this weekend for me to even consider this one.

It was um...ok. LOL... Great ride as always with MAJOR attendance. I'm surprised the way that the ride stayed together as much as it did with that many people. Many thanks to those that put the ride together and lead and chased and all those in between. Great day for sure. What was the final tally on ride time and mileage?

Thanks Ryan.

It wasn't perfect, for sure, but I was pretty shocked at how well everybody stayed together. We've had a LOT more problems keeping folks together on rides HALF the size up there.

Final roll-off tally was 30 souls. We were joined by Lynosky on Stone Gate (mofo flew by me like I was going backwards) making it 31.

15 went to the Thirsty Moose for post-ride libations. Frank drank a very large beer.

EXCLUDING the 3-stone loop, total ride was 16.36 miles w/rolling time of 2 hrs 20 minutes. 3800 ft of vertical according to my Garmin. Those who ran 3 stone probably eeked out another mile on the total as well as a couple hundred feet of up 'n down. Though, those who ran Anrothar's alley probably have a little less distance than that.

For those who didn't make it, we did get rained on in the WMA and it got a little sloppy. No t-storms. The ride, in general, was wet and slippery in spots, but all-in-all not bad.

If y'all thought that was fun, just wait 'til I invite y'all up when there is snow on the ground and we do it 😀

Thanks to everybody for coming. And special thanks to Shaggz, Sparta Brad, Stratocaster, and Hardtale70 for helping out w/lead 'n sweep...and anybody else that helped keep things together. Tell ya' guys 'n gals, when I saw everybody at the parking lot, I was thinking we were heading to clusterf***-ville...so EVERYBODY give yourself a pat on the back...

Oldest NOT....
