What runs through your head while racing?

Back on topic-

Random race-time thoughts:
-Holy crap, those guys are fast
-I can't believe I paid money to do this
-I can't believe I drove 100 miles to do this
-Boy, I ride like a spaz

Occasionally I think about having fun and whatnot, but the above are probably the most common single notions gleaned from 16 years of racing. Fun, fun, fun.😀

I'm usually singing some song my daughter has been recently playing incessantly. Sunday was different, I was sorta in kill mode. Every time I saw anyone in front of me I did the Reggie Jackson, "Must kill the queen" line in my head as I would try to track them down and kill them.

Rockhoper, You're more than tough enough on your own.
First place and an automatic upgrade?
Phew!!

Thoughts... keep rolling forward, why am I doing this?, Who put these rocks in my way?, Oh yea, I'm a roadie, I can't believe I made that, Pedal pedal pedal!, Look where you want to go, A log on a downhill... no f'n way!, I am so out of my league, Holy S^*!, Will they let me go back to beginner?, "Got mud on your face, big disgrace, somebody better put you back into your place", Look at me... I'm rockin' with the Experts!

When it's over I know I'm going to do it again because racing makes me take risks and work harder and learn more and get better than I ever would on my own.

This is the song I was singing to myself at Wawayonda. Oh Yeah! I'm a DIVA!

BiknBen remix lyrics:
Love me hate me, say what you want about me
But all of the boys and all of the girls are begging to R-A-C-E me
Love me hate me, but can't you see what I see?
All of the boys and all of the girls are begging to R-A-C-E me
Love me hate me, la la la, la la la

Lol...I was so pissed cause I had the same song stuck in my head. I had either that stuck in my head, my nutrition regimen that I was calculating, or concentrating on being smooth and reeling in or gapping the people around me. That's pretty much it for me.

Oh yeah, pre-race music is HUGELY important.

I have to be careful to not let some sort of crappy ear-worm song get in my head, lest it run itself on a loop tape for 2 hours. Think "I Only Wanna Be With You" by Hootie and the Blowfish, for example. Once it's in there, it ain't leaving.:scared:

This week I sang Rock Star by Pink....i got my rock moves......

talked to myself a lot....come on you can do this...one more hard section

when I got tired at the end I started dedicated miles to my loved ones...corny, but it helped.......

"Where is everybody going?"

"What was I thinking?" :drooling:

"I'm hungry!!!!!!!!"

but then you cross the finish line 😀😀😀😀😀 and it's all worth it!!!!!

'I doubt I can do it'
'I wonder if I could do it'
'I might be able to do it'
'Hey, why don't I try to do it'
'I think I can do it'
'Look, I'm doing it'
'Wow, I did it!'

My thoughts went something like this:
Start! Go go go go whoaaaaa slow down I'm gonna blow up. How come nobody can ride singletrack? Trackstand...Trackstand...Trackstand...damn it! Unclip. How much more of this lap can there be? Under the down tube is an awful spot for a water bottle mount. I mean really awful. Who decides this stuff? They should probably pay me to do it. Does this mud make the GU gel more effective? Is that guy peeing in the woods? This whole train of thought was set to Sly and the Family Stone - Dance to the Music. "And I'm gonna add some bottom"

Holy crap that was the longest lap one ever. I'm DFL. Gotta be DFL. Don't quit...no points for a DNF. I can't reach my Clif bar! Got it. Oh man this is the best clif bar ever...where do I put it? Ben said he put it up his legs...how bout down the pants? Perfect. Is that a Clif bar in your pocket or are you happy to see me? Man I hate this. I am not racing again. EVER. That guy is in my class. How did you get behind me? I like the way clif shot blocks stick to my teeth. There is mud in my eye. MUD IN MY EYE. Shit I didn't bring my glasses. Mud don't tear my contact. I think this is the last climb. Nope. God I hate this. What if I fall asleep on the way home? Final stretch...I made it!!!!!! I MADE IT. And I'm alive. And I didn't crash. OMG Bananas. :drooling:

We are all sick for enjoying this.

Lately my thoughts have been technique related. Things like... keep my head up, pedal in circles, stay lite on my bike, relax my grip, breathe, and don't forget to drink. The tough part is focusing on these points for the duration of the race.

I heard alot of people say they sing songs. All I can think about is getting a flat! I notice when im not paying full attention to riding I do better, I stop thinking of things that can go wrong and how far the guy ahead of me is. Without the stress it seems like your not using any energy:popcorn:

best post ever.

i sing alkaline trio songs...few times going down hills with only my front tire touching i was saying "if i was gonna go down that was the spot" as soon as i hit *red dot* i was saying out loud *4th quarter, who wants it, do you want it, push push* over and over again i got really siked. if i couldn't see the rider in front id look back and thank god i couldn't see the rider behind me. the minute i thought about what i was doing i'd have to touch down. it was the most fun i've had on a bike in a while. in the end i replayed the race in my head and thought i could have gave more but baby steps for me. im happy with 12th, not satisfied but happy-ish :2guns::popcorn: popcorn must die

Bastard! now that crap is gonna be running thru my head all night!!!:mad3:

Sunday at various times in the race I had Motorhead playing It seemed to be a mash-up of Overkill, Ace of Spades, & Killed by Death.
During the first lap I was watching the miles till I hit the end of lap 1, saw it was 9.5 miles then started counting down the miles to 19.
Thought about how the mud up here is pretty tasty which reminded me of Jules Winfield and wish i had some Sprite to wash it down.
 and popcorn

Dude congrats on the 12th I would not finish...
next race will be better..

Bens got it right. I sing all the time too. People probably think I'm talking to myself, but I'm singing. ...."I like pleasure mixed with pain" that kinda thing. Art sings the beer song a lot .... "b, double e, double r, u, n, beer run"

I had racing laryngitis this sunday so I didn't race, but if I did, the song would have been: ..."Hey, hey mama say the way I ride, gona make me sweat, gona make me groove. I don't know, but I've been told, a big tired woman ain't got no soul"

I guess too much tire whoring put that song on my mind 🙄 ...I digress.
