The DIY thread - DIYourself

If you take that door off on the right, can you cut a piece of wood the depth of your armoir and clamp it to that side in the front and back?

If so, you can clamp that wood horizontal and then just run the router along it and take off 1/8" depth and then keep moving that piece of wood up as you cut out a strip. Larger router so you can do a wide swath at a time, not a trim router. Well, aren't you retired? Trim router would work too... 🙂

The better way is if you can clamp two pieces apart from each other that you can move the router up/down without it sliding off one of those two rails so you can cut a very wide swath.

I did something similar recently to route out the bottom of a slab of wood for a mantle so it would sit over the uneven bricks.

Description horrible, but something like this picture:

My father passed away 13 years ago. He had a full woodworking shop that remains untouched in my mother's basement. So I have access to everything I'd need with a trip out to LI.

It's an adventure!
There are some nice pieces of furniture out there now - not so much in 2019 cause the TVs hadn't grown yet.
You'll need a new A/V system cause 8K UHD HDR.
I can give you the number of the kidney harvester I used.
My Marantz won't even process 4k. She has no idea how bad this could get.

I finally convinced my friend to dump the cabinet.
Get a nice credenza - put tv on wall (or on credenza) - add a center speaker or soundbar - cause voice
You will be happy - and love island will never look so good.
Like this. Only picture I could find in my phone, but you can get the idea. 55" TV sits on top. Cats can watch Olympic gymnasts from the floor.

I can make you a deal on an Anthem MRX 720....

The height of the credenza vs the size of the tv is important - try to get the center line of the tv close to eye level
We were at a friend's recently and they had installed one the "frame" tv's. My wife liked the idea till I mentioned we're not installing a tv 5' high just so it looks good when we're not watching tv.

This.

We had the same issue in the family room a few years back and we had already removed the doors from the 25 year old armoire to fit the 32" TV inside when the prior one broke.

Now the family room has a low profile type credenza cabinet and a 65" TV mounted to the wall.

It'll be easier to modify that wall unit than trying to find someone to take it. 🙂
this is 100% accurate statement

Oh, I should add that we only have the armoire so it looks good when we're not watching tv. Been closed less than 10 times in 27 years and it usually involved a death in the family.

I've been a part of clearing two estates in the last year. Of the 5 armoires I tried to get rid of for free from those estates, 5 of them eventually found their way into the dumpster. Found the customized receipt for one of them, they paid $5k for it, and it still looked brand new. Really felt bad trashing it.

Yeah, I'm not joking that it's impossible now to get rid of those along with china hutches. Donation places don't want them either.

It's like having 35" CRT TVs that were top of the line. Less than worthless now.

Best use of them now is to tear them apart for good wood.

Ughh idk what the heck the issue was this time around replacing the garage torsion springs but it didn't go to plan. One of the pulleys derailed when I tested it and I had to take out all the tension off and start again with less turns but its working perfectly now 🤷‍♂️ home ownership is fun lol

Somewhere last year I posted a Q about the steering on my F911 mower.
It def needed a steering valve - which I got on eBay. Belt came off one of the deck pulleys this spring,
put enough drag to snap the drive belt (what's that smell? snap!)
Finally did the work today, since the ZTR is down.
Wrong part ordered from eBay (right part per exploded view of that serial number - just wrong part for the build???)

anyway - here is the steering valve project in the take-apart stages

I have the shop manual - only thing needed was the post-install bleed procedure.
Still have that sloppy bushing on the steering ram to solve.

Mount it on the wall and burn the armoire (or repurpose it). I had one on an undersized old kid's desk for years. Decided to upgrade to a new TV and mount it on the wall.

Ran the electrical for the TV and sound bar off an existing outlet below. I think it looks sharp and surprised myself that I didn't eff it up.

Need some expertise advice.

The temp sensor in my freezer broke off. I'm not sure if it's possible to reattach it to the gray wire, which is almost flush with the hole. No slack on it either.

It's a Samsung french door refrigerator
model #rf4289hars

What do you think?

I can't tell where the loose end attaches but for the cost of parts or a new fridge i'd def try to get a solder joint to take. It's easy enough to add some wire to what's hanging loose there

Does the loose end attach where the arrow is pointing?
Pic is a weird angle

Might just be able to strip and crimp? it doesn't need to be insulated...just use the metal parts of a crimp.
if insulation is wanted, use shrink tube.
solder also a good option if you have the equipment

Yes, where the arrow is pointing.

The wire looks longer than I originally expected.

For perspective, it's on the ceiling of the freezer. Hard to angle myself in to get a good look at it.

Going to pull the door and basket off and get a better look.
