Allamuchy North Conditions

The lower section of lumpy bumpy has a tree down maybe a few minute walk from the typical end of the trail if you're going to cut that one shown above. Sorry no pic, but 16" would be plenty. That connector from the Iron Loop to White has a couple closer to white. I know, bad descriptions and I have to start marking my map.

Really came to say how surprisingly good Mooch North was. Over three hours of riding and only had to get off the bike a few times for downed trees. Could clearly see some of the work!

Went out after work for some trees. @MarioGed i got the one after the roller and the one on the trail on the other side of lumpy bumpy. @goldsbar i got the one at lumpy exit. Also got some on the lead in trail from waving willy to lumpy. @chainsawer i mad a map of what i got.

Today, Dennis, Bill and I went on a big clearing mission, hitting the Eastern side of the park. We went counterclockwise along the route marked in purple. We easily cleared 20+ obstructions. Some were tracked (Red Waypoints on Screenshot). Some were bonus blowdowns. And at least one was a ghost that was nowhere to be found despite being provided an accurate GPS pin? We exited at dark, at 8:15 or so. All of us slammed. Thanks to Dennis & Bill for being most excellent assistants, and also to Dennis for a lot of the intel. The second screenshot is what I believe to be left in the park, mostly on "Ice Cream".. Next cut opportunity will be early next week.

Thanks for getting those! And thanks for keeping us abreast of this! I'm happily removing waypoints from my master tracking list. I'm surprised we didn't hear each other. We weren't very far from each other!

That was a massive effort for you.💪 Those trails were chunky and steep. Took us nearly 4hrs to cover 5mi!
Somebody put this on a tree we cut a while ago:

They should swap "Chainsawer" in place of the # listed 😁

Wow, allamuchy north sucks. Looking at a map and there is no easy way to get to any downed trees in the middle.

Doing Chainsaw missions on that side of the park is always an extreme ass kicker for an old man like me. Sooner or later, I won't be physically able to maintain such a rugged park and will have to defer to the younger, more capable sawyers. It makes me happy that other sawyers are already doing what they can here. But for now, I can still make it happen. I welcome the chainsaw missions because they're the equivalent of a CrossFit workout (sometimes a double or triple session!). Those are days I can eat whatever I want and I don't have to go the gym! LOL. But yes, to your point, it's quite an effort to get saws into that part of the park. That's why accurate intel is SOOOO important. What works best: Screenshot of your Trailforks GPS location, and a pic (or a very good description) of what to expect.

BTW, with all the recent work, I'm pretty certain a few blockages were missed. Poor intel, miscommunications, etc, It happens. So just please keep reporting anything you find. Pro tip: Sometimes your GPS app takes a little while for your location to "catch up". That might explain why we'd find nothing at a reported pin.

If i were to buy a new chainsaw to help out would an cordless one be better for transporting it ? I say that because i already have 2 40v Ryobi batteries. Id just need the saw. And whats the minimum acceptable bar size for these missions?

Please do not do any sawyering unless you are certified by the state/JORBA. We're having a course upcoming and will be announced soon.

Went out this morning with Tim the new Jorba lead for Allamuchy north. Hit the orange loop in tranquility a little early this year to knock down the brush. Covered the whole loop. Should be good for a while. Hit a lot of prickers and barberry just as it was starting. Did find 3 trees so will have to go back with the saw.

Not really. Depends on the saw. If you know you’ll be under one battery, yes. But for larger jobs, you mayas well carry bothfuel and lube to be able to go all day.

You'd be surprised what you can do with just a 6" chainsaw. 11-12" logs no problem, which incorporates a fairly high % of deadfall. Not saying efficiently; you'll spend a lot more time than a 16/18", but they're so easy to throw into a pack. Chainsaws are like guns and fireworks. They're all dangerous, but the bigger they are the more dangerous they are.

Awesome! Thanks for doing that! That was the last of the targets that I was tracking (and a few more I wasn't). As near as I can tell, Allamuchy North is finally clear again!! Anything found from today on, is either new, or missed. I'm gonna shift focus to Stephens, which has a few new ones.
There's a few more including a big one by a steep rock roll off of purple thats overdue for removal but ill get those in the next few weeks. Big thanks for jumping in recently to help get it under control!
