Tariffs...what to make of them.

So if I read this correctly according to some on here you can't dislike or disagree with what is going on today without being labeled a "Dumocrat" who can't do research?
Not sure which post(s) this is directed at, but IF it's at mine, I'll respond:
  • I never said or implied or labeled anyone a "Dumocrat"
  • I clearly said the issue of buying into one's choice of news source whole hog exists in followers of both parties
  • I implied that if one person keeps repeating proven lies while another person is repeating facts, the person who is repeating proven lies loses all credibility
  • And I did clearly say that in the above bullet circumstance, these 2 individuals aren't having a meaningful debate where they are comprehending what the other is saying, instead they are talking AT each other not TO each other
If it wasn't directly to my post, all good, I figure the clarification doesn't hurt cuz I know there are folks here who will try and misrepresent what I said. They've tried before, and when I asked for the direct evidence, they just deflected to something unrelated.

Really… so scum bag Robert Malley gets a buy because he was on the Biden abomination team and fake news media will not portray any negative narratives! Please do yourself a favor and look him up!
You’re totally ignoring who did what here. I don’t care if the guy is a pedophile. He’s not the one that put our national security in danger. You think they should all get a pass because this journalist is biased?

Don't know anything about the guy so this is more of a general statement than a direct one on this topic. The issue w/ journalism is bias, which has always existed! This ain't new, it's just now w/ the internet and immediacy of information availability it's more noticeable.

In this thread, multiple people have already repeated debunked information as if it was fact. The guy that continued repeating horse paste despite the facts around that. More recently, folks are parroting the fine people hoax, which was debunked as well: https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/trump-very-fine-people/

Snopes claims to be a non-biased organization, which I'll assume they are. Some have claimed they are left-leaning (I'm guessing conservatives?) but I'm not going down any research rabbit hole like that. I'm not aware of anyone accusing them of being right-leaning, and if that's true, I am only bringing that up to say if they aren't right-leaning, then there shouldn't be any agenda for them to falsely debunk the fine people hoax. And if someone actually listened to the full clip (or read a full transcript) instead of just sound bites that were specifically pulled to give the impression he said it, it's hard to come away believing he said what was claimed. (I'm not even gonna entertain the people who are gonna come back w/ "well we knew what he meant, he was just covering himself").

My point is when you get folks parroting what their favorite news outfit said w/o doing any independent research, and when you show them the error of their ways and they keep parroting, there is no discussion going on here; it's just people talking at each other, not comprehending each other and having a meaningful dialogue. It goes both ways of course, factually incorrect right leaning bias stories have the same problem of their consumers parroting them as well.

Don't get me wrong, there have been some good discussions here that were interesting. But that's why I've mostly tuned this thread out. There is so much deflecting, changing topic, repeating things that aren't true, and people putting words in other's mouths that were never said, etc.

In other words, standard anonymous internet behavior.
Get out of here with your common sense middle of the road approach.

In reality, who of us has enough time to sit on a daily basis and go into the weeds on each and every one of these topics to figure out the middle ground is between the two sides? You’re right there’s inherent bias in the press but that’s the best resource that most of us have.

But back to the big picture: At best, a politician is akin to a used car salesman telling you you’re getting a great deal on the car you’re about to buy. Probably some fuckery at play in more than one place. And theoretically, checks and balances across the branches of government provide some allowance for blissful ignorance to those of us who just wanna live our damn lives and not try to decode every political action. That last bit is what really feels to be under attack these days.

Yeah, fair, I guess I'm looking at it from my point of view. If I don't have enough info on a topic, I literally don't chime in. If all I know is what I've heard or read in the news and I haven't looked into it more to try and figure out how factual or twisted it is, I stay quiet. That's where I enjoy some of the civilized back and forth here, get to maybe learn something, or at least hear different perspectives to try and come to a better informed opinion.

And I really try to only jump in when I feel I have useful context to provide to those who haven't dug in. Like you said, no one has the time to look into everything! So if I have looked into something, if I feel I have valuable facts to share, I feel like why not try and throw some knowledge out, can make us all better.

But when people dismiss it and keep repeating false narratives, well then they are responsible for that. It's quite alright to be ignorant (i.e. not know the facts), but it's another thing entirely to be presented facts and completely ignore them.

I will say there's been multiple times where I typed something out, thought twice about it, did a 2 second google and changed my mind because what I thought was the case was not. Very often we have a belief that's not founded in reality.

Great example was the previously mentioned Social Security where a lot of us always thought Congress just ransacked the fund.

So, is everyone excited about liberation day?

This is the tariff thread. This going to pretty much shut down most industries that are assembly based. Between that and the government staff reduction's the monthly jobs reports will not be released because they are going to stunningly bad….. thoughts?

So I had to respond, bc fuck it...its raining outside...

So for the record answer the below…
1- was the mission completed?

Well they launched another one last night....so no?

2- was any US service members killed or in any danger?
Mind you that I work at a job in which I would not only have been fired for doing what they did, I probably would have been arrested.....so I know a little about clearances and Scifs.....That said....People texting the plans with EXACT times, weapons, equipment over a totally unsecure platform....with 12 people involved....one of whom was in russia at the time....lol..no danger whatsoever. Hopefully Goldberg will share the info live next time....I love watching F18 flyovers!

3- did it stop the targeting of shipping?
For what? the day? the forever? Can anyone honestly answer that? From TWZ on Jan 14th

The U.S. Navy’s surface fleet has fired nearly 400 individual munitions while battling Iran-backed Houthi rebels in the Red Sea over the past 15 months. That includes the firing of 120 SM-2 missiles, 80 SM-6 missiles, 160 rounds from destroyers and cruisers’ five-inch main guns, as well as a combined 20 Evolved Sea Sparrow Missiles (ESSM) and SM-3 missiles.

They are still there....We spent over a billion dollars bombing them...then of course so did the Saudis, etc....What was the only thing that caused a pause in these attacks? The cease fire with Israel...which is now in the toilet. And I think as Israel has shown.....carpet bomb a place into the stone age....kill thousands and thousands of people....destroy all of their cities, starve them, cut off their water....and they are STILL there....They are still an issue...they are still resisting. So im sorry, but 1 attack has not convinced me that this is now over with. How many leaders of al qaeda have we blown up now? They are still around.

4- did it put Iran on notice… you bet!

I mean on notice for what? We'll bomb you? OK, so then what? Ayatollah Khamenei is out there saying they he will respond in kind to any US attacks....So getting into a war with Iran (bc Israel or more to the point BiBi wants us too)....this is a good thing? Iran has been supporting one terrorist group or another for my entire lifetime....we have been in a proxy/direct war with them forever...be it our support for Israel, supporting Iraq in the Iran/Iraq war....operation praying mantis, shooting down one of their airliners, the Iraqi insurgency....I dont see what this attack has "ended"
https://www.nbcnews.com/news/world/...me-leader-bomb-nuclear-deal-tehran-rcna198823
So it’s a win..!

Great, what did we win? more tax debt? haven't heard anything about the cost of global shipping coming down yet....maybe a new war with Iran?

Unlike the past administration (what a joke!) The withdraw from Kabul that killed 13 US service members! And sleepy Joe kept looking at his watch at the memorial of the planes arrival….you got to be kidding!! that administration was the worst ever!

Terrible....but to read about this incident and walk away brimming with confidence about this current group....I mean you really have to be chugging the kool aid.

Has nothing to do with/ my reply of course; yet another deflecting tangent. Thanks for playing.

Kinda thought that you were trying to disprove the hypothesis that tRUMP is racist and his association with a Christian nationalist, violent band of thugs might be related.

And I can play AFD.

You mentioned above that this is an anonymous message board, but I have ridden with @Mtbdog, a much better technical rider than me, @Johnny Utah (beating him in Marty's FAT FIFTY was one of the most fun days on a bike) and I believe I lent Captain B his first fat bike for a quick spin.

I have ridden with 10 or 20 others from both sides and will continue to do so. Everybody on the block no my nickname.

You may want to brush up on our involvement in Yemen. We went to war with them under Obama in 2015 without a declaration of war under Congress. Trump kept up the bombings. Joe Biden kept up the bombings.

And now a "terrorist" is confirmed to go into an apartment building to meet his girlfriend AND WE BOMB THE APARTMENT BUILDING and you consider this a success all by itself?

Where did I claim the first sentence? Willing to correct or clarify myself if I did, but I'm not recalling making such a claim.

You are taking the anonymity way too literally. Is there a single person on this board who knows 100% of the others here? Doubtful? Most folks here are anonymous to most other folks here would be my guess.

You are just as anonymous to me as I am to you. It was a general statement, including myself, not targeted towards any individual. It wasn't a dig or a congrats, it was a simple fact of internet social media life.

I don't believe snopes is accurate, he clearly stated there were "fine people" on both sides. If you read the link you provided:
Editors' Note: Some readers have raised the objection that this fact check appears to assume Trump was correct in stating that there were "very fine people on both sides" of the Charlottesville incident. That is not the case. This fact check aimed to confirm what Trump actually said, not whether what he said was true or false. For the record, virtually every source that covered the Unite the Right debacle concluded that it was conceived of, led by and attended by white supremacists, and that therefore Trump's characterization was wrong.

I'm not sure in what other context anybody could take this. He clearly stated that a bunch of white supremacist were "very fine people". Let's remember, the scumbag who drove the car, killed one and injured dozens. I'm not sure how anyone could need to take a stance that there were good people on both sides. It was asinine.

I think Trump is a scumbag, I think he's always been a scumbag. I used to crack up when he was on Howard Stern and talking about judging beauty pageants. But,

That doesn't mean I thought was Biden was great, I don't understand why everytime someone gives an example of how full of shit Trump is, they say something about Dumacrats or hunter or some other guy.

I will say, I do think that there are actually people in Washington who do want to good for the country, both Democrats and Republicans. I'm sure there are a million scumbags, but there are people there out of a civic duty.

Someone has to help me out on the blind loyalty thing to Trump. What is it, I genuinely want to know. I'm not a diehard republican or democrat, I just don't understand it.

@Doom

Why would it be ok for that group to have a reporter on the text chain? To me, that clearly shows ineptitude, doesn't it?
