Ask an automobile mechanic.

The Corvair isn't a bad looking car, my son is right in that the older cars had a style that newer cars don't. I'm sure there's a Corvair group out there somewhere. Or someone will buy it and engine swap it with a small block V8.

There is a car group out there for every car. There are the Porsche people, the Corvette people, shit, my son even belongs to an Mk3 GTI group that meets up once a year. Its surreal. Its a bunch of sideways hat, weed-vaping, tattooed dudes in their late 40's with GTI's modded to ridiculous levels of power. They're a good-natured, good-meaning, and entertaining group that my straight-laced track-star son absolutely does not fit in with, which makes it even funnier to witness. Wonder what that vintage Camry group is like? Wonder if they cross-pollinate with those crazy vintage Sienna people?

I'm in touch with them - going in their February newsletter.....need I say more.

Was txtng with XDave. There is an Ass for every seat......
I kinda miss my v6 pinto hatchback...not really.

Don't know about that. You seen some of the shit they buy/sell on BAT? A boring 20yr old SUV like the Toyota everyone is glazing in this thread is nothing. There was a 25yr old Camry, a TAN Camry, the automotive equivalent of Ambien, that someone overpaid for. Yugo's, Dodge Omni's, its the wild west.

Yea that 4 runner is worth about 2k imo but for some inexplicable reason people are way overpaying for alot of crap

some discussion on frame rust on car spotting thread

I came across this shop last year when I was looking at some okay ish jeep frames. Just thought I'd share. Sounds like he does excellent work and I'm sure can work on other models. I was looking at another JKU a couple weeks ago. Was about to spit and shake but then saw oil spewing out by rear of engine. He was so unphased by it. Didn't even bother to look when and where I pointed it out. That means he knew about it 100%. I walked away.

Its a jeep...if its not leaking oil, you better be putting more in

I bought one of these kits last year...not this one, but surface shield. Should be enough to do my truck 2 or 3 times. Was pretty east, albeint messy....busted out my tyvek suit.

Goes to show you, one man’s trash….. Someone essentially overpaid for a slow, ugly fwd drive car from the early 90s, that is essentially worse than every fwd car that Honda produced afterwards. I drove one of these for 2 years, exact same color too (it’s basically the color that everyone bought). I miss it exactly 0.0. Nostalgia is almost as powerful a drug as love.

My point is it's not anything special that would possibly gain value. Not limited production or hard to find. Seems silly at his age to have a second car just to save a vw
Chalk it up to the enthusiasm of youth. And you should be able to drive a Porsche (they galvanized even the old ones) in the salt. He thinks its special because its a VR6. They gutted it, put in new floor panels, and modded the interior with some cool stuff. its his little passion project. Keeps him off the streets.

Not silly at all. Especially for a kid. I'm an old man and did rocker panels on our Ram 1500 (there is only a million of them out there) a couple of years ago because my kid liked the truck, the drivetrain had been serviced religiously and the suspension had been redone.

ANY exercise in welding, fabricating, and mechanical work is worth it alone. While not a Porsche, I think a VR6 GTI is a cool semi-limited production vehicle. A Mk4 R32 is on my want list.

Speaking of galvanizing - I have a pallet of Land Rover parts at V&S in South Amboy getting dipped in galvy. I've wondered if I restored a Saab 900 classic if they would take the body and dip it so the corrosion they are known for would be handled.

I have an '09 Honda Odyssey (mini-van). Got it off-lease in '12 with 30k miles. Now it has 170k+. Pretty sure I've never done a thing with the AT Fluid, or the Tranny filter(s) etc. Bought it as "Honda-Certified" so maybe they did it at 30k, or maybe not 🤷‍♂️ might be original fluid. My question is:

Should I just leave well enough alone and not disturb it, or is it worthwhile to dump/refill the fluid, etc.? I'm kind of afraid doing anything may do more harm than good, but I'm mad at myself that i never did anything with it.

I never expected to have the van this long. I've grown incredibly attached to it for some unknown reason. It's in rough shape, which sort of makes me like it more. Paint started failing, terribly on the hood, so I rhino lined the hood making it look SWEET in a mad max sort of way. Added bonus, now my wife never wants to drive it 🙂

Help me extend it's inevitably short remaining lifespan....

Lol. This just reminded me that my son's '07 Land Rover has never had any fluids done except oil changes. Might have done the coolant once.

Hmm, It's entirely possible I've not done the PS fluid, Brake Fluid, or coolant either. In fact yes, I'm pretty sure I haven't.

I trend to do brake fluid on my pickup trucks....Because eventually the brake lines rust away and it leaks out the fluid so.... 🙂

But I always do the Oil/filter changes with mobile 1 synthetic and my Honda engines do great! Most of our cars are manual tranny tho.

Flush the brake fluid, it’s hydroscopic and it’s safety related.

Are you on the original timing belt? Usually the coolant gets replaced along with the ware pump when you do the timing belt.

I wouldn’t do a tranny flush at that mileage. A drain and fill…. maybe. Don’t know much about that transmission specifically.

Need picture now.

We have leased an Ody every 3 years since 2002 when my 2nd son was born. The current one is a 2023 that I got in summer 2022 and is surprisingly quick and sporty ( Sport manual mode and paddle shifters!)

If it was up to me we’d keep this one since it’s way below the lease miles but probably the last one since the wife is ready for an SUV - probably the Passport if I can swing a good deal.

I’d agree don’t “flush” the transmission fluid maybe just drain and refill like suggested above this way you don’t disturb anything.

2026 Passport coming this year looks really nice.

Oh Yeah, I had the timing belt done around 120k miles. Forgot about that so I guess coolant would have been done I suppose. I did the alternator in a napa parking lot in DE on the way home from the MASS Granogue race. Did the starter in the parking lot of my office where it left me stranded. I did the sway bar bushings and had a clunky axle done. I think that is pretty much it.

I think for the Honda's they recommend never flushing, only dump and fill I haven't had many AT vehicles though, most of our cars have been stick. Maybe if the tranny goes I'll try and get a Manual put in 🙂

I routinely put my DJ and three BMX race bikes in the back by just folding the rear seats. I can throw multiple surfboards in there...can even fit a full longboard in. Perfect spot to change in and out of a wetsuit for winter surfing. When I drop my daughter off at NICA camp in VT, I sleep in it for a night or two with my bike no problem (middle seats come out in seconds). All that, and it feels more like a car than a truck driving in traffic. Get past the stigma associated with a mini-van, and it's really awesome from a functionality standpoint.
