Car-spotting thread

2-ish hours away in Charlotte. So in reality if the car checks out I'd want to just leave with it. Not even sure who the 3rd party would even be.

I don't have a bank. I use Fidelity which does have a location but it's on the other side of Charlotte, and looking at traffic it's 50 minutes each way in traffic.

I'll ask the guy what he thinks. If he's comfortable talking to Fidelity, seeing my online log-in, etc and going in-person to his bank to deposit.

is there a western union? I think they can do a real time ACH or wire account-to-account. shouldn't cost that much.

Cash is an option. When I sold my '70 Vette I told the guy I wanted cash since I had a bad experience with cashier's checks years ago. Got $19K in cash. Counting it out is a hassle though. 😁

I thought Western Union was only for scams?

Maybe only for the payer not the payee.
Check with your Fidelity broker if they offer Real Time Payments or FedNow. These are the two truly instant payments systems in the US. If they do you can pay the seller instantly upon taking possession of the car and title. These are different than Zelle, Venmo etc, which don’t really settle in real time. Most major banks (Chase, BofA, etc) offer one or both of these. Not sure about Fidelity. A Google search says they don’t but can’t hurt to check.

I got more worried about counterfeit bills selling my dad's car. $17,000 in cash. We met at the bank and I deposited it before I signed over the title. I figured at that point it's commingled and TD Bank's problem.

What about using PayPal?
Paypal may be an option actually as it is linked to my account.

I don't have an easy way to get cash either. I actually requested an ATM card a week or so ago and it hasn't shown up. Haven't used an ATM since pre-covid.

And that's not an amount of cash I'm comfortable carrying around.

Oddly two cars ago I brought 10k of cash to the dealership and they struggled with a way to take it as a form of payment. So then last car purchase at a dealership they didn't want to take a personal check which is crazy to me as they'll let you leave with no money down and just a promise to make future payments.

I'll see what this guy is comfortable with if this goes through.

There are also brokers who will hold the money in escrow until the paperwork and any inspections, shipping, whatever are done. The heavy hitters on Rennlist have discussed using them but probably overkill in your situation.

No bank, no ATM, no personal checks. You using hookah shells, generally?
