Cars, it's electric! Do Do Do

I love the headline from that article

THE FUTURE OF CUSTOM VEHICLES:

Im sorry, but until our generation is dead, or gas is $50 a gallon.....the custom, retro, restored, classic, etc.....car/trucks soundtrack will matter. Go tell vinyl record people about how much better whatever digital format is out there lol.

That said, all mazda rotary engines should be melted down and made into ford electric engines.

I was criticizing the era of the vehicle, not the make/model. I'm not driving across country with a carburetor or points ignition...
I don't know. I've got a 27yo fuel injected V8 driver and a 56yo carb'd 4cyl, and aside from highway speed, I think I'd drive 'cross country in the older one. For one thing, I can probably find wire on the side of the road to keep the carbed engine running, vs. the on-board spares kit I have to have for the younger one's electronics!

c'mon bro. Who here actually tracks their cars. Let's be honest. Do you actually care that much?

GT350 engines get replaced. Then they fix it. Likewise, Surely time and engineering will fix overheating issues. EVs will be on the track. Live with it.

I used to love racing my EV's on the track. Had a setup just like this in my bedroom, but mine was Tyco. Used to step on it and break the tracks all the time.

I fully agree that the soundtrack will matter especially when combined with a manual transmission and the whole experience is more enjoyable.

Besides an EV swapped early Econoline I'll take a 3dr Suburban or IH Traveller/Travelall with this powerplant:

They have figured it out (at least Porsche has), the Taycan can turn hard laps till the battery dies. Maybe Tesla should pony up and hire some actual car engineers instead of just using a software update every year to polish up the same old drek?

i've played with these - the damn ghost cars are fast!

That said, i have Carrera Digital 132 - the cars can run in the same slot and switch lanes at crossovers, ghost cars, pit, fuel usage, apps, scoreboard...
never use it. did they appreciate? i haven't looked in years.

Yeah, my point is there's certain cars it'll work with. Do I want a '67 Camaro that's electric? Certainly not.

But something like that Econoline may not be be so bad. Is a 200HP electric motor any worse than the crappy 170ci single barrel carb, 6 cyl engine that many of those had?

Not exactly rowing through the gears in that thing on curvy roads.

Just saw that GM is saying 100% electric by 2035. I haven't really followed EV's since they really don't interest me.

Serious question. How will this be dealt with in cities where there are lots of car owners, but only on street parking? Where the majority of owners have no garage or even driveway?

im sure the cities will jump at the chance to replace parking meters with charging stations in which they can tack on a X percent tax and take more money from peoples pockets

Gotta be a huge upfront cost there. Most cities have removed meters and replaced with a one box on a block that takes your CC and spit out a ticket. Lots of cities can barely fix a streetlight. I can't imagine them keeping the electicity flowing.

I doubt GM will be 100% electric by 2035, unless they want to be bankrupt. Being electric by XX date is the popular thing to say these days, but I don't see it happening by any of the dates they claim.

wireless charging at the paid stations
Honestly, I wouldn't own a electric car at this point in time if I lived in the city. Unless if I was wealthy and had a garage and garage had EV charging.

im mean that too.....NYC doesnt give a crap about its residents ability to drive a car. They go out of their way to make owning a car in NYC really hard

I was thinking more about all the smaller places. Places like New Brunswick, Newark, Buffalo, Pittsburgh..... the list goes on and on. Local residents have always just parked on the street and dealt with the inconvenience as a part of life in the city.
