My son suffered a broken frame and it is not pretty (jagged metal -> blood, the front wheel slamming into his helmet is what saved him from face planting into the ground at velocity). Do you run any liability by returning it to the customer with an obvious hazard ?

seriously tho, I would put it in writing - not serviceable due to damaged beyond repair on the receipt and then show them the next best thing on the showroom floor you have available.
