That 8% might have issues getting off from work or just scheduling a convenient second appointment. I know I had no easy way to change the assigned appointment from the middle of the day to another time. I dealt with it, but not everyone can take off in the middle of the day for the shot.

I doubt it. CDC says the rate was 3.4% in mid Feb, when it was alot harder to get appts. I still say J&J scared people off.

so where is the study of why people are not getting their second shot?
if it is all computerized to get the appointment, when it realizes it missed, why doesn't it push to reschedule (and get a reason)

we rescheduled my kid's 2nd - pushed out a week. he has a track meet and prom the two days after the original, so seemed prudent.

Why would there be a "study"? More than two times the percentage of people are not getting a second dose compared to 2 months ago. I don't know how they are doing it in nj, but here, you make an appointment for 1st and second at the same time. If you miss the second, you get reminders to reschedule.

I also think the very conservative CDC guidance that just came out didn’t help. They needed to be more bold so people see the benefit of the vaccine. They came out essentially saying the vaccine sorta works, maybe.

Why wouldn't there be?
It is measurable. How would they know what to messages if they don't know the reason? Certainly you wouldn't use an opinion on something so important.

Agreed. I think it was more political than anything. It was their way of saying, "Oh hey I know you guys are not wearing masks outside and that's cool, we dig it, and we're kinda ok with it as long as you're vaccinated and by yourself when you're doing stuff."

I mean they came out and said if you're running or biking by yourself it was ok to not wear a mask? What use is that?

Ah so you mean a poll. Yes they should. Will they? Who knows. They also should not have paused the J&J vaccine, but that ship has sailed.

A lot harder, but those were also people calling 15 different sites and driving 2 hours to any appointment that they could get.

Now that supply is so high and anyone can get an appointment, I can see those people getting lazy.

There is something I'm sure to the bad timing of that second dose. I got the date and time thrown at me. While it worked for me, I'm sure many people have work or other issues.

I rescheduled mine with 0 issues. I go tomorrow morning. Looking forward to my 4th nipple.
Each place is different. Through Middlesex county all I could do was cancel the appointment and wait for them to send me a new random appointment. There was no way to pick a day or time for the second appointment.

You don’t need to go to the same place. I went to a cvs for my first but wanted to push it back a few days so I found a second moderna at Walgreens on the right day.
My wife has been finding everyone in the family appointments so she knows where to look

Thankfully it's easier now. A month ago places like CVS were 100% booked every time I looked. And I looked a lot.

well, i guess 1 shot is better than no shot. I've read that the first shot of Pfizer and Moderna are up to 85% effective. I just can't believe they are not saying that when you get the vaccine then you can go back to normal, no mask. Makes no sense to me. You would have a lot more people getting the vaccine if it meant we could ditch the masks and go back to normal. This approach of looking into the camera and shouting, "GET THE SHOT!!" is not working.

Yep, messaging is terrible. I'm pretty much done with masks - only where required. Most places here it's optional now
