IMG_20151231_120546362.jpg

Broke the 10k mark this year. Goal for 2016, not die in Yellowstone or Alaska. Aiming for the 12k mark next year. Losing weight is for bitches.

Just think if everyone put me as a goal to ride with I could tripe my miles from this year.

2016 Goal: finally ride the northern parks I've avoided cuz I'm a f@&$% moron.

Sooo, challenge accepted.

Ride with @mattybfat! That should cover The Allamuchy 3.

Ride with @Kaleidopete that should cover Wawayonda and some reservoir stuff.

Ride Ringwood! Maybe I can con @domo into giving me the 50 cent tour.

Ride @icebiker 4x50? ride in 2016. Looks so cool.

See @skyrokz do his friggen "Roof Drop!"

Ultimately build upon last year's foundation

Increase hours and mileage and be careful and avoid any further injuries

MTB
- Ride more rocks and mountains
- faster, smoother and more efficient in the rough stuff
- maintain a lower race weight
- Mid Atlantic Super Series - Cat2
- build confidence and hopfully by the end of the race season feel ready for CAT1

Road
Learn the ways of the roadie - drafting, paceline, become a smarter roadie
Events: HOH, Covered Bridges
Maybe do some club road rides

CX - too early to talk about. Continue to race and accumulate points for a Cat3 upgrade

Be more disciplined with bike related spending

2015 summary:
6400 miles total, 5600 on the SS.
Won few races, and took a bike packing trip back and forth across NY on the Erie Canal Trail.
I also managed at least one 100 mile SS ride every month from April through October.

2016:
Racing - Leadville, 24 Hours of Round the Clock, LBD, SM100, Monster Cross, Iron Cross, SSaP, Stewart 45 (or whatever this year's iteration is!)
get to SSUSA (its in PA this year!) if possible
Also will try to do a winter trip in Feb or March somewhere south or west to ride for a week

Not sure what else - I'll be trying to get lighter and fitter to help manage/offset the altitude issues I'll have in Leadville. And I'd like to fit in some new multi-park rides, although I'm not sure what those would be at this point.

2015's goal was to ride more than 2014, when my twin girls were born in August 2014 so the fall so little riding, so more than 430 hours and 7,693 miles....

Started off slow with 199 hours through June 30
Rode the fuck out of bikes in the fall to have 274 hours July - Dec

Totals
309 Days with a Ride
473 Hours
8,518 miles
366 rides

Notables:
New Longest Day
Hot Irons in the Fire
8 hours, 135 miles, new longest by 0.1 miles

  • June 30/30
  • New streak, 41 days, Oct 4th - Nov 13
  • New Most Hours in Month, 55 hours. 971 miles in October
  • New Most Hours in 31 days, 60 something, over 1,000 miles (wish this aligned with a calendar month)

  • Rode my mtb and All-City with cross tires on dirt more in the fall.
  • Watched Peter Sagan with the World Championships in person
2016
  • Ride the Fuck Out of My Bikes
  • Ride More Than 2013, 9,200 miles?, flirting with 10k
  • 50-60 hours in January

Here you go @1speed i just planned you bike trip. Just for sake why do people always look to do Leadville and not this.
http://breckepic.com/about-the-race/

I'd love to do Breck - definite bucket list event for me - but I'd rather work out how I respond to altitude at a one day event first and then maybe do that in 2017. Like I said, I've never raced at altitude before and it would suck to go for Breck and have to drop out because my lungs fail me.

2015 goals were
run more than 14 pretty easy since I only did about 100 miles 2015 saw 427 miles
do two mtb races done Stewart 45 and SSAP
Ride the mtb more than 2014- done
3750 miles was the total goal down from 14 due to increased running but managed 4K this year
Complete a century- didn't get to knock this one off for some reason.

2016
2 mtb races again
PR for a 5k
Run a 10K
4250 total miles on the bikes
450 miles running
get to kingdom trails!

2016 I plan on crashing less, it's starting to hurt more.
I've only been riding about a year and a half and have learned after three races, I'm not good enough to race, so stop!
But I had to try it, for which I have no regrets, I just know my limitations.
I do want to do more riding though. 90% of my riding is trails and woods. The road is fun too, but I like woods more.
I like my big slow Fatty and exploring new places, and I don't plan on stopping riding.

I'm going for 1500 mtb miles this year and maybe my first race. Pales in comparison to most... but I barely broke 1000 this year and I road as much as possible to combat hypertension (haven't been back to the doc yet... waiting till after tax season 😛 ....but I am definitely doing better than this time last year! )

With the wife back in the saddle, hoping I can crush that goal.

@Kaleidopete i need to get you hooked up with a group my Patty @pedals rides with. They meet up quite frequently at a bunch of parks most are retired and at that 70 years young mark but all good riders. They are not on the forums here but communicate via emails about upcoming rides. You could open up waway for them.

Just checked strava profile

2015

195 rides
3886 miles
208,300 ft elevation

32 runs/122 miles - significantly less than last year.

compared to last year, 20+% more rides, about 5% more miles, tells me I did more mountain biking, which was the plan. I feel like I'm at the stage where I no longer suck - progress. Also did longest ride ever (first century - 100.3 miles - HOH ride) and biggest climb (2048 ft - Kankamagus pass in New Hampshire).

2016 - hoping to continue with more mountain biking, especially after I finally get a second mtb bike in Feb. With retirement planned to start oct 1, I have 3 months of no work so rides/miles should go up significantly. Maybe I'll even try a race. We'll see - hopefully no serious injuries.

I started riding again in May 2015:
Began the year at 205 pounds with high (but medicated) cholesterol and low energy.
Ended at 164lbs, off cholesterol meds and higher energy.

Distance 1,731.7 mi
Time 137h 10m
Elev Gain 38,291 ft
Rides: 184
Longest streak: 32 days (Halter's July 31/31 plus 1)
Only about 150 of those miles were MTB
Majority were my 9-mile (each way) commute.
Vast majority were solo.

Bought two new bikes and got the kids into riding - and the wife back on a bike.
Took family to Cranks Around the Campfire - no one died.

For 2016:
1. At least 3,000 miles.
2. Ride with people more.
3. More MTB
4. Maintain max weight of 165 - or lose some more.
5. Get to DirtFest or Kingdom Trails festival.
6. At least one overnight bikepack trip with the wife.
7. I need a race to target for some focused training motivation - it's been almost 2 decades since I turned a crank in anger and then it was 24-hour races. Ideas?

++++ A great big thanks to this board and everyone on it for information, motivation and amusement all year long! ++++
