Your PC/device needs to be repaired?????

My HP laptop has the separate keypad, not sure if they still make them like that. FWIW it blue screens at least once a month but is fine on the next start. My wife's Lenovo has been Rock solid ironically.

This lenovo has been perfect until friday. It's a year sooner than most of mine shit the bed.

Run a chkdsk command for bad sectors, not sure if it's applicable to SSD drives. Could be that you're just reinstalling to a bad one. Maybe swap out a new SSD if you're adventurous, when SSDs die they die hard unlike hd drives which can limp along.

Get a Chromebook..... Ignore the apple people.
This is not a bad suggestion if all you need is a browser. It does everything which one needs everyday. Even has an option of running Linux.

Try getting a bootable USB drive for any OS. If it works, then it's mostly your ssd which has failed.

Chromebook’s apparently only run TurboTax online. TT online limits your ability to run multiple tax returns unlike the pc version. In two years the additional TT fees will be well above the difference in price between a Chromebook and a laptop.

Does intel vs amd really matter all else being equal?

I have a home gaming PC (my kid's old one) which I run TT and QB (multiple co multiple returns) -
then access it using google remote desktop or RDP (microsoft remote desktop) from my chromebook.
QB just announced that 2024 desktop is their last one (3 years of support @ $650/yr), TT can't be far behind.

The PC lives in a safe environment with auto back-up to google drive (i have the 2TB subscription)
It isn't on a UPS for some reason - so i restart it when we take a power hit.

When home, i have a wireless keyboard (w/num keypad), mouse, second monitor, and run it wired.
I prefer a desk to my lap - but that's just me.

AMD vs Intel only matters for specific s/w - ie gaming, then it is mostly the graphics processor that is doing the lifting.

for basic computing, no you wont notice a difference, iirc amd processor tend to run hotter when pushed, but you likely wont be doing that.

My step daughters laptop gave up the ghost (Lenovo T500) with a bad mainboard. So I gave her my Lenovo Yoga (1st Gen), and upgraded to this: https://www.bestbuy.com/site/lenovo...ry-1tb-ssd-storm-grey/6571369.p?skuId=6571369

Was on sale for $678.

I used to repair computers back in the day. I will still only purchase Lenovo laptop's. Dell, Compaq/HP, and crApple laptops are the suck when it comes to working on them. Takes a lot of effort to destroy a Thinkpad.

My company has about 30 field engineers each with their own laptops. Everything from cheap whatever from Microcenter to 3kish Lenovo/Alienware/Whatever someone wants. Generally when they're new we give them a cheap laptop but when they replace it they can get whatever they want as everyone has a preference on size/specs/etc.

The Lenovos definitely are the burliest with the least issues. The X series has been fantastic, luckily I missed out on the one bad generation of them.

While the chromebooks are appealing google stops supporting older versions. And I'll take a $200 used X series laptop over a Chromebook so I'm not limited on software.

After the second reinstall of Windows it seems to be working normal again. I'm not sure if it's because I updated the drivers or it's just coincidence. But since I'm glutton for punishment, and have too much free time on my hands, I'll keep using it until it crashes again.

My primary mobile system is iPad pro with keyboard attached which I have been using to do work related activities which is mostly in Office 365 environment. I also picked up an USB-C to HDMI adapter which allows me to use external monitor as 2nd monitor. For non-mobile stuff I use a Intel NUC that I picked up via fleabay which does the job for things like TurboTax etc.
