Winter races?

Keep an eye out. I'm planning on putting on a Fat Endurance event in December.

Good!! I pre-rode most of the loop today. Ironing out details but the long race should be between 125-150 miles 😀

I may offer a 1/2 distance version as well, but I'm not sure if anyone would do the long one I did.

So here's a question. What format would most guys want? All the big fat races are ultra-endurance events but would anyone register for something like that? Also, would anyone come out if it wasn't in the snow?

We are 90% complete with doing an endurance race very similar to Tuscobia. At the moment I have a 120 mile route mapped out that I've pre-ridden. There could be a 60 mile or team option for those not fit enough to do an ultra.

Let me hear some ideas but I'm not in the least bit interested in doing an XC style event. There are already fat bike classes in every H2H race that no one shows up for.

I do not race by any means, but this has spiked my interest. Wouldn't mind hearing what the route would cover and time frame.

I have no interest in an Ultra...I'd be more interested in a race more along the lines of the "Frozen 40" or the "Fat Bike Birkie"...

Problem would be getting guys out to it. Generally speaking, fat bikers are not the racer crowd. Any race I've entered there have been 1 or 2 fatties. Even the 6-pack only had 6 of us and that's no where near enough to break even putting on a specific event.

Most of those races you speak of take place in right in the middle of spring and summer race season...You're right...I raced all season and never once did I even think about choosing the fat bike...But a lot of us racer folk do ride fat bikes in the off season and I think a Fat Bike race in the same vein as the DH 40 or ssapalooza would kill!!! Dec, Jan or Feb would be best...

I applaud you for putting on any type of Fat race though...Thx!

I will put together a longer Winter XC race. With the turnout we'd get it could be completely unofficial...

I'd be in for a race if I do get a fat bike. Not sure I'd be in for an ultra though. Longest road ride i ever did was 58 miles so 120-140 I'd have to sit out.

maybe jim can set up a qualifier....

I've looked into this. Mostly for my own selfish reasons. What better way than put on your own race to qualify for a race you want to do? It'd be like printing my own Golden Ticket 😀

I am making the trek out to Wisconsin to do Tuscobia as it is a qualifier for Iditabike. Actually, the winner of Tuscobia gets a paid entry into ITI. That's also why I've put all my eggs in one basket this year and have been training specifically for Tuscobia. I'm planning on doing the Tour Divide in 2015 and ITI in 2016.
