Wildlife

Saw bucks fighting in Harriman this morning. Twice. There were a few more bucks hanging around watching the second bought. I’ve never seen bucks sparring before. I was unsure as to what I was hearing when I first came across them. Not till I saw one did I realize what the clanking was.

One of these days I need to learn to manually focus the phone cameras.

Not the best picture but I think this was a heron. I was shocked it was initially standing in the middle of the Columbia trail
And I didn’t see it right away but when it took off like 50 feet in front of me the wingspan is just YUGE.

I followed it a bit until it landed in the trees just off the trail and got a few not great pictures.

A Great Blue Heron, nice capture.

I posted in a different thread how this year was a "mast" year for acorns in my backyard (aka, an extra sh!tton on the ground). This has turned my yard into squirrel heaven. This morning I counted 20 squirrels simultaneously feasting. Excuse my poor photography but there are like 10 in this frame:

Well, the larger local fauna have also figured this out and we've seen this guy around a bunch. He was unsuccessful this morning, but we've seen him be successful a few times now. No need for Discovery channel here!

Lots of foxes around here too. Heard them screaming the other night. Quite the noise.
