Which fork should i get?

so you think i should just keep my bike and upgrade the fork?

depends how much you can spend... personally I think a good hardtail should cost about/above grand... maybe rigid 29er less (I know some call me 29er hater 😀 )

many will say save money for a new bike but the most of them upgrade their new more expensive bikes anyway.

my first upgrade was RS Tora 318 and still ride this fork. I think it is a little bit stiffer than more expensive Recon.

IMHO a fork and tires are the most important things

i rode a trek 4500 today and i really like it.

It didnt have disc brakes, but i find that vbrakes stop better than cable discs.

Im probably going to end up buying this bike, any comments?

when the v-brakes get worn in they lose ALOT of stopping power, when i ride with people on disc brakes i am using BOTH front and rear brake going downhill(i have a trek 3700 w/ v-brakes) in order to keep myself under control without locking up the rear wheel, IMO the cable disc brakes will perform more consistently than the V-brakes JMHO

I still have a bike with v-brakes (the old bike with the Tora 302) and another bike with disc (hydraulic), the v-brakes have great stopping power, but once they get a little bit of water on them or the rim, it starts to pick up dust and dirt. That then ends up with less stopping power because you are now grinding dirt into your brake pads and into the rim, scoring the rims' surface, as well as, it's just less of the brake pad surface stopping you. And my personal pet peeve, the grinding noise as you ride along without even using the brakes.
My suggestion is go with the disc brake bike. These days, it's easier to obtain parts, if needed, for disc brakes than it is for v-brakes. Mechanical disc brakes take a couple nice rides to actually break-in and start to really stop you, but when they do, it's a nice stop... 😀

i guess my best bet is to find someone with broken in disc brakes and see how they feel.

Thanks for all your help guys, i really appreciate it.

jamis seems to be a pretty good brand, im getting a steal on a dakota comp, gonna get it in this week 😀, take the one your looking at for a ride and see how you like it, im giving them a chance (i started out on TREK swore i would never leave, but i just CANNOT pass up this deal 🙂 )

Cable disc brakes

I run cable disc brakes on my urban/park bike and they work as good as my hydro discs they just require more up keep/ adjustments.
