What do you pack for CX races? Things that makes race days easier?

After the first race of the season, I realized we may be off our race-day packing game a bit.

Something that we did not come prepared with this weekend was bottle cages!

We almost never leave home without toilet paper, babywipes (useful not only for wiping babies), Gallon jugs of water, and lots of towels.

What are your packing secrets?

Later in the season, when temperatures are less predictable, I'd pack smaller bags within a main bag for different clothing items (and I wrote the items that go in each bag). Bag 1: Knee warmers, arm warmers, leg warmers. Bag 2: Skinsuit. Bag 3: Heavy jacket, tight....you get the idea.

That's my secret, everything else is food to eat. Someone else will have tools if you need them, but bring a multitool to adjust things during preride.

for these hot races, nothing is better than jumping into your bathing suit and catching up on your base tan, not sure why others arent into it. i thank jason for this tip.

things we forgot:
  • cowbells (multiples)
  • vuvzela (need to purchase new one by saturday, thanks for the reminder)
  • oversized lou head

Nothing is more pro than gluing your numbers onto your skin suit.

Things to keep in car:

Wet Wipes
TP
Nitrile gloves for that sweet embro dawg
water
cash
toothbrush/paste, deodorant.

Though I NEVER remember cash..

I used to be neurotic while packing, now I tend to wing it and deal.

Kit, helmet, shoes, bike. Everything else are just luxury items.

@SpartaBard if you use 3M 45 it doesn't leave residue, though I used the Super 77 last season and don't mind the residue at all. Skinsuits are for CX only anyway so it will always have a number on it.

My duffle always has spare tools, tubes, cores, valve extenders, patch kit, lube, etc. Aside from what’s in my normal ride bag, I pack the following:

1. cash

2. cooler bag (water, drink/recovery mixes, fruit, fig newtons)

3. change of clothes (don’t forget undeez and extra socks)

4. towels

5. slippers/sandals

6. 2nd kit

7. Inflator/pump

8. spray adhesive

9. spare wheels

10. megaphone

11. chair

12. *baby wipes will be added for 2015

I saw a guy bring a floor mat and put it down behind his car. Seemed like such a good idea when changing.
I have cardboard cut to line the floor of the trunk/keep spare wheels from bashing each other that I also throw on the ground to stand on if needed.

Most everything else has been covered, although digital tire pressure checker is also key. Adding vuvzela this year (amazing the looks you get at elementary school level Rec soccer with one of those things).

4. towels
THIS.
6. 2nd kit
Definitely a good idea. I think for muddy/cold/wet races, I may even bring a second pair of shoes.
Also - garbage bag for muddy kits/shoes/towels.

#OishiProTip : Back when Horseshoe was a cold, muddy double, we figured out that our Food Dehydrator works as an excellent Shoe Dehydrator. Set to 110 deg, leave for 8 hours. Wake up to nice, dry, warm shoes.
Ours is something like this, but smaller. http://www.amazon.com/Excalibur-3900B-Deluxe-Dehydrator-Black/dp/B004Z915M4/
(Worth pointing out that now it's just a shoe dehydrator. It's no longer used for food!)

Good call as this hadn't crossed my mind, but I've got another pair of SPD's sitting in my closet. I'm gonna add those too. There will be that one time you broke a buckle or something unless it's like < 20 degrees in which case I break out my winter boots 🙂

I like the dehydrator idea but my I've got extra shoes and the Shimano's were molded, so I def don't want to stick them in an oven.

did he remove the one from his foot well or bring a welcome mat?

Now that I'm reading about all this crap I'm remembering why I used to spend too much time packing.. Guess it's time to put a little extra time in..

Get a peet glove dryer. Works fine for shoes.
