What Bird Did You See Today?

Well this morning we have hatching time. Came back from the dog walk we had one. Ate breakfast and checked again we have 2 I guess by later today we will have all 4.

Hoping the Crows or some other predator don’t snatch them away. Last year after we had 4 of them one morning we had none.

Say AHHHHH

momma Robin ( not the Robin on here that rides bikes) stays close now she even flew back into the nest while I was watering the front flowerpots I was only about 15’ away.

Here she is the day before the 3rd one hatches giving me the stink eye. I was standing close but Zooomed in to get the pic and not spook her.

Arriving home from work today my wife showed me the robin’s nest on the tulip tree we’ve been considering taking down…so guess we won’t!

All’s well that ends well.

After a few weeks of excitement and getting divebombed by momma bird whenever I leave the house the little chicks are all grown up and have flown the nest.

The other day I came out to walk the dog and the three of them were squawking at me. One of them stood up and made a break for it. It flapped around the front lawn for a few minutes and hopped away across the street where it was met by either mom or dad Robin.

When I came back from walking the dog the 2nd one had already jumped down and was on the front lawn hopping around and trying to fly. I had to go on some work calls and by later in the morning the last one hopped out and left as my son was leaving for work.

Glad this year they all survived any predators now all we have left is the dud egg and the messy nest. That wreath was new but it will end up In the trash.

We have a whole collection of funny videos from the security camera now of everyone in the family getting spooked by the bird. 🤪

Saw two local hawks hanging with the local crows. I didn’t even know they were pals?! One adult, one juvenile, and 6-7 crows, literally playing (jumping around and short flights in pairs) the backyard.

Pretty sure I saw a gray hawk last week over my house in Westfield. Really rare, since they are native to Mexico, and are only seen in the US in TX and Arizona. maybe I was wrong, but from below it had all of the features: smaller than a red tailed hawk, with curved wings, and distinctive white and black banding on the long tail feathers.
Very Cool!

Saw a huge pileated woodpecker at middle run on Friday. Huge bird and when it took off from the tree, the big black wings with white accents was quite a sight. Big red pointed head like woody the woodpecker. Third time I’ve seen one in the wild.
