Warming Trend

Great post Ellen, and good explanation Mr. Chainsaw to why it is detrimental to the trails to ride on mush when the weather is "perfect" for a winter ride. Rode plenty of times at CR where the front wheel got stuck in a rut caused by an earlier warm day of sludge and re-froze. Fortunately no OTB, but after a re-freeze these ruts are that much harder to "fix" come spring and just continue to erode the trail. Trail erosion is one of the biggest reasons for banning mtb, so let's be smart and considerate when riding. "Perfect" winter riding is when temps are below freezing for an extended period of time and hit the trails early when it's still below freezing. It's NJ- 25 degrees isn't that cold 🙂

Great post! If it's soft or prone to damage, best to leave it for another day.

Another "ride" option ...😉

is that a carving board? nice. don't see too many of those out there.

looks like conditions suck for both sports these days.

Lets hope for some real snow - be good to get a group of riders together for a day trip. Haven't been on the board yet this season...

Yes, thanks, it is. Donek Axxess 172. As with all of Sean Martin's boards he builds them to spec. I had it built wide for my big feet, and he tuned the camber to my weight and riding preferences. It's amazing what a difference it makes when something is tailored to suit. Alas, you're right conditions today weren't good for either sport. I spent the day tinkering with the bikes in my garage. Maybe next weekend.🙁

After todays snow/mix, the forecast is for a slight warming trend for a few days. Please use common sense on where to ride and not ride. General rule of thumb is if you bring the trail home on your tires, better to stay off the trails. Thanks in advance! 🙂
