Tuscarora

Congrats to Monte for winning the MTBNJ Short Track race at Alamuchy on Sat! Sounds like it was a good one.
Panhead and I went to PA for the opening race of the M.A.S.S. Endurance Series...the Tuscarora MTB Enduro.
It was a tough day...the course had almost a thousand feet of climbing per 6.6 mile lap. The conditions were deplorable, with huge puddles and slick mud that made you feel like your brake were rubbing the entire ride. The singletrack downhills were like re-learning how to handle you bike, as you couldn't really steer without your front wheel washing out. Panhead flipped over the bars on lap 2, bashing his knee and putting and early end to his day.
In the Masters, I battled it out the entire race with Pete and Dave from Shirks. Dave flatted on the last lap, and I had to stop for a "natural break" and to clean off my mud-caked glasses...Pete got a big gap that I no longer had the legs close down, so I ended up with 2nd at the finish.
It was actually kind of fun, in a miserable, pain and suffering sort of way.
Here are some excellent pics from the race that will sum up what the day was like.

Overall a pretty good start to the season, and a good weekend for the new BTR/VTC/EMP team.

Cheers,

natural break? i thought u vtc guys just peed in your bibs.

congrats!, hope Dave is ok.

u guys need to shorten that team name...bto(bachman turner overdrive)

Monte is in great form. I was talking to him before the ST race and he was telling me how he had to hang on for dear life to finish at the end of the pack in 1 of the races. Incredible what the talent must be like out there.

I see that Roger registered for the Six Pack this weekend.

Thanks Iggy

Dave is fine. He's virtualy indestructable. I wouldn't be surprised if he's out riding the Bearscat loop already.

I gave serious thought to pissing myself, but I knew there were no showers at the venue and Dave would have made me sit in the bed of the truck for the 4 hour ride home.

Team BTR for short, or VTC, or EMP. Of course, we'll always answer to SaD

You guys rock! Yep, Dave's already talking about waway this week. Broken knees don't stop him. Gordon, there's some great pics on that site.

I've been feeling like I'm 20 years younger this week. The pain and soreness reminds me of the barfights of days gone by.

My knee is still the size of a cantelope and its a bit stiff to bend. Guess its a good thing I have my 1 month post op check up on my other knee tomorrow.

I have another month to get ready for The Maximus, so today will be an easy spin followed by Barrett Road with a 20 on the back.

Gord may say he was tired, but he was looking great! Didn't see any cracks in his armor all day.

It was quite the humbling experiance being lapped by Pflug knowing he went through the entire pack. Dude turned a 37 min first lap and settled in for 40 min laps for the rest of the day.

As of now I'm trying to hook up with PaD for a Friday afternoon ride in Waway. Couple hours, relaxed pace. SaD.

ICE! ICE! And Naproxen for inflammation. Fri works for me. Yes, I imagine Gordon was super fast at the race, considering I couldn't keep up with him on our 'easy' ride the other day.

Nice recap Gordon. But it sounds flat-out brutal. Did Sue beat you guys?

It was amazing, but yeah...really, really hard. The most climbing I've ever done in a race.
Oh Yeah, Sue beat us. She dropped us on the ridge after I gave her the Endurolytes and we never saw her again. She's a great technical rider, really cool chick too.

Michaux Trail Cup

Another brutally hard but amazing race. 2 different 20 mile loops. Long ass fire road and doubletrack climbs connecting miles of rocky singletrack. Very high pucker factor on some of the steep descents. Unlike some other Michaux races, almost everything was ride able. Took second in the Masters and won a large painted rock and a blueberry tree. Full report coming soon...
