vintage mtb rides on Saturday morning..

I remember crashing for no apparent reasons on 26” wheeled rigid bikes back in the day. F that.
I don’t really remember crashing much on my 26” hardtail, while the 26” full suspension I rode until I got my 29”, that was a well oiled OTB machine, as many in here have witnessed (that said, I crashed plenty my 29” too).

How much of that might be because we were also less skilled back then?

I occasionally think about getting my old Yeti Lawwill working again... While I raced it as a DH bike, I originally bought it because it could run a front E-type derailleur and used as a trail bike - which I did a lot. But for better or worse, that is pretty far down on the forever growing list of projects I need to do. And it has a 26.8mm seat post, which basically precludes ever putting a dropper post on it. And while there are a lot of things about modern bikes I could live without for an hour or two, I'm not sure a dropper post is one of them.

135mm stem with 22” bars and a saddle 3” above my handlebars is something I have no need to revisit. Add some 1.9” tires at 50psi that don’t work when wet. Sounds fun?

Short wheelbase bikes with long stems that had you a mile ahead of the front axle. What, you don't want to revisit a trip over the handlebars on every ride?

Nah. All rocks and roots back then. No manicured trails like today.

Manicured trails? You people think trails like Warm Puppy are hard now, you should see what it used to be. Ringwood used to be washed out hiking trails that went straight down the fall line, no turns, not water bars, or switchbacks. Hang on and try not to lockup those V-Brakes or go over the bars.

Hah, I didn't die, but I also didn't go fast today. 26ers are like parading around with a classic car, avoiding bad roads and going slow around corners. Tbh, my back does hurt a bit if it makes you feel better @Bike N Gear
