Kutztown Cross 11.17-18.12

This weekend's two day event in Kutztown in PA was part of the ECCC and PACX Series. This race was presented by Vortex Cycling.
The Course:
This mostly flat race circuit was set in the scenic rolling hills of Eastern, PA. Saturday the course seemed to lack flow as some riders disliked the overall layout. Having two "crop circles", two sets of barriers and many turns the course was all about power. On Sunday, however, the race course was run in the reverse direction. The course crew worked hard to transform the race course on Sunday. The crop circles were gone, they removed some of the twisty corners and created a fast, fun and flowing power circuit.

Unsung hero's going home ... Thank you.

Hey, that's my dog! Great picture of him 😀
No way! He's adorable and a really good kisser!
Nice job Bard!

Curious...did the winner ride a singlespeed?
We got there in the closing laps Eric, I don't recall if the winner was on a SS. I did see Brad on his last lap and he was killing it! He started near the back of large field. IMO if he had one more lap the podium would have looked a lot different.

Action-filled shots! I think these pictures really capture the relentless corners of Saturday's course. Thanks Christina for continuing to show all of the amazing energy of our cross scene!

As always thank you Chris. I kinda didn't have a good feeling when we had to drive through a flea market to get to the race event.
In my opinion a race is a race but, Saturday's course was too tight, hard to pass, with far too many corners. More then a few riders didn't bother racing the second day. Sunday's course was night and day compared to Saturday. With that said, I'd race there again next year if they used Sunday's course.

The flea market and farmers market were nice distractions from the usual race environs. It would have been a nice one to drag the family to see.

Will you be at SCCX this weekend?

The Women

The Kutztown Cross was a power course. Cyclocross is a cycling discipline that you cannot hide your lack of fitness, either you have it or you will be dropped. I decided to race both days in the Women's 3/4 category finishing just inside the top ten both days.

Start of the 3/4 Women:
1024.jpg

On Sunday I had a decent start and made my way into 2ND after the first lap. My mistake was to pull a group of 6 for the next 2 laps rather than sit in with the top 5.
