Tuesday Night CR Pain Train Ride

I just realized the way I wrote this, you were expecting me to show up today. I can't make it today.

Worst recap ever.

OK, fine.. I’ll give my best effort at a Utah/Norm/Jim style recap….

I think you need to be logged into strava to see the segments… just an FYI

We started off the ride with Dave, Woody, myself and Pat….in that order. We head across Newman’s for the “warm up” and start climbing up the hill. Dave was going a bit too fast for my taste considering this was just a warm up, but I made it clear that this was “his” ride. I was just a follower today. So I didn’t say anything and just kept the pace.

When we got to the top the 3 of use were right in a line with Pat falling back a tiny bit. But he was still within eye sight so we started descending the hill and then down the rocky trail to the bottom. We made our way back to the intersection and I asked if we were goung to go back up the middle trail. If this was going to be a pain train, then we needed hit all trails in all directions I thought. Woody made a comment about whose ride this was… (not mine 😛 ) so I shut up and followed. Too much stopping already.

We cross Newman’s and head to the red climb. Dave takes the first left up the hill and we make our way across. At this point I made my way onto Dave’s tire and the warm up is done. No matter what pace we say we will do, as soon as I get on Dave’s back tire, he pushes. We could agree to do a recovery pace ride at 6 mile, and as soon as he senses me behind him, he tries to gap me.

At the first little stream crossing we get to he takes a bad line and gets a rear flat. Meh. SaD. Brand new Maxxis Ignitor EXO. (told you they suck) So we stop and wait. Only because this is his ride. Anybody else gets a flat and they are screwed. I start saying things to Dave about how he better work on his flat changing skills before bearscat or he will have no chance on recovering from a flat. This has an impact on him and he wastes a CO2… 😀 Somebody is nice enough to give him another and we are on our way.

We get down to the guard rail climb (KOM Segment http://app.strava.com/rides/6551475#123048219) and I jump out front. I cleaned the hill and power up that climb faster than I ever had before. The goal was to beat the KOM which I had just set yesterday. I get to the top, look back and see nobody near so I start slow pedaling. Eventually Dave catches up and asks why I slowed down. And that the KOM segment doesn’t end until a little further up..!!! Man.. WTF? I did the same thing yesterday and beat the old time, so If I actually pushed the whole way I would have CRUSHED it. Whatever… next time. Woody catches up a second later. Pat is nowhere to be seen. We wait another minute and decide to push on.

At the bottom of yellow trail I let Dave get a little ahead of me before dropping down. This is another KOM Segment which I had my sights on. The pace was hot all the way up. With me right behind Dave. We get to the end and Woody wasn’t nowhere in site. After a minute or two he rolls up. Another KOM for me… http://app.strava.com/rides/6551475#123048210 ). I guess the little gap I gave Dave, which I then closed up during the climb was what I needed. I have no doubt he is out there today trying to take these KOMs down. If not today, tomorrow for sure… 😀

The next part of the ride was uneventful. We hit all the yellow trails, some in both directions, and then head back down to Gilbride. Along the way we run into Kirt and he hops on the pain train.

We climb back up the orange trail and then drop down to the dam, then do the long climb back up again. This is probably the best climb in the park and should be a segment. I’ll get around to that eventually.

We make our was down the guardrail climb and then had over to do behind the ball field. A little overlap here and there, but it’s necessary to hit all the trails. No big deal.

The pace has been hot the whole time as we make our way through the white section. Dave is still in the front with me on his back tire. I think Kirt in now behind me and woody following. We blast the entire white trail in a few minutes.

As we make our way back to the lot, it looks like Dave is headed back to the car….meaning the ride is over. Nah nah nah… “where you going?” I asked him…“we’re crossing over and finishing up on Blue” I say. He says OK and we head over. Woody is just catching up, sees what is going on and says some derogatory 4 letter word aimed at us and turns the other way. He was done with us.

I lead the change up the middle blue trail. Along the way I hear Dave say something like “This is Jeremy’s ride now”. Damn right. I start pushing at a race pace and don’t stop until the top of the climb. Nobody is behind me. Game over. I win. Not sure if anybody else was really playing though.

I decided that last part needed to be a segment as well so I made it this morning. Surprised who is at the top? http://app.strava.com/rides/6551475#123386205

Nice meeting you Pat, sorry that you were derailed on the guardrail climb, come on out next week and give it another shot.

Personally, I don't get any satisfaction from dropping a rider unless it's a race. The idea of the ride is to push hard, but it's kind of lame to leave someone behind, particularly when they're alone. Woody suggested we establish a weekly route, that way if someone is dropped, they can meet up with the group later in the ride.

Jeremy, you looked strong last night, it must be those hg rides and the superbike. The guardrail has always been your thing, I think that when you go out and kill it, it's going to be impossible for me to beat. I'm surprised that you KOM'd the yellow trail climb, I didn't feel like we were pushing all that hard at the finish.

Once we got back to the lot, I should have bailed with Woody. You were flying up blue and I was left for dead.

Nice, much better. See now these are the kinds of recaps that will get a bit of a better group the next time. Or totally leave you by yourself. I'll convince Utah to join me down there 1 of these days. I'll flat or crash inside of 20 minutes but he will take all the KOMs and you guys will be pissed at me for bringing him. He's like my assassin. I show up with him and point and say go. Then he crushes.

First it was great meeting you guys. That was a great ride. Coming from 6MR and Allaire, then riding CR for the first time in a while all I can say is damn. You guys kicked my butt. After that last climb (guardrail), I was spent a bit. I did the Orange loop then back to Red (I think), then over the white. Thanks for pushing me, that was a great ride. I will definitely be back for some more pain, either from the hill climbs or rocks I am not sure.

Nope. Won't happen. I'll be a KOM Blocker. New term.

next week? i want to  then go home and :drooling:

Pat, good to meet and ride with you. I should have stuck with you - those two lunatics murdered me.

Jeremy, that's some hot stuff on the CCW Short Blue loop. Any idea why Strava thinks this is the same loop?

After this weekend I was going to start to figure out how I can say I have to go somewhere for work on Tuesday nights and hit the HG ride, after that recap now I think I want to do this instead...

Yo thoughs are beat downs nice woodro...

The guardrail one is going to be be a tough one to beat!
Btw, where does the segment start? Looks like right after the little 'punchy' climb..

Now i have to climb that stupid orange trail from the dam as well. Should be fun..

After the punchy climb?... Oh no, my KOM is totally bogus! Strava started my segment in the wrong place.
Seems like Strava screws up more often than it works right. 😡

Anyway, to answer your question, the segment is supposed to begin just as you go behind the guardrail. If you switch to Satellite view, you can zoom in closer.
