Torn Meniscus

MUTHER F*CKER!!!!!!!

I have to have surgery on my right knee on July 10th. MRI shows a small piece of my meniscus is torn and "folded back and under". Dr. says 2 weeks till I can drive, maybe 4 to 6 weeks back to feeling myself.

I have no idea what I did, or how it tore. I woke up and couldn't use my leg. Felt great when I went to bed. Go figure.

I've always been a mule. This is the first time I've been hurt in a way that needed a repair other than time to heal. Sucks! My thigh muscles are already going away because I cant use the leg properly. I want fixed!!!!

Anyone else have similar surgery??

sucks to hear man. maybe you can spend more of your time on this board and entertain us with CT things.

I tore mine a few years ago on the dirt bike. Arthroscopic surgery was smooth; I had 2 small incisions with 3 or 4 stitches each for a few weeks. I felt like I was able to walk out of the hospital and I was back to normal in a few weeks with some basic PT.

Follow your doctor's orders, do the PT, and if it hurts stop.

I'm hoping this is the case for me too. Thanks for the reassuring recap!! This is basically what the Dr. told me I could expect if things go with what he sees on the MRI.

Knee pain sucks my brother. 🙁 I went through 6 months utter nonsense with Dr.s, PT's, and sitting around (no surgery), but have nothing to add to this thread other than I wish you luck my friend!

Good luck man, sorry to hear!

Thanks guys. Maybe I'll write about my recovery and return to greatness....

The good part of this (I guess) is that I have zero pain when at rest, and I can walk flat ground with no pain. Uphill, downhill or stairs are the challenge. Talk with you soon. I didn't forget about that call...

My experience was almost exactly like this.

Your be on crutches for 3 or 4 days and most of the soreness will be gone in a week.

I'd venture a guess to say you'll be back on a mtb riding light trails in 4-5 weeks.

This is just arthroscopic surgery. The incisions will be small and I predict you'll be back on your road bike in about 2-3 weeks. Just make sure to follow your physical therapy regimen religiously.

J,

This sucks... but gives you a chance to concetrate on the perfect Heady Topper clone. 😀

Hope everything goes smooth.

Good point.....

Thanks Tim.

Figuring out how to get rest and heal while I have 3 miniature Luchadores coming at me will be the challenge.

I have had my meniscus done twice, first time was concurrent with an ACL as well so cannot comment on that one. Second time was meniscus by itself, no issues felt like I could walk (barely) out of the hospital and was back to normal in about 2 week. Good luck

Sorry to hear, J. I have no advice other than the avoidance of brown acid. Doctors are bums.

...feel for you, have had a bad knee...2nd degree acl tear with a lot of meniscus damage...
Rehab it agressively, as suggested above and the bike is a part of rehab early on. It's sort of how I started cycling in the first place.

I get what you are saying since this is your first injury...the things in your head you can't explain...for me "oh crap, I can't run away from that bear/guy I pissed off in a bar/rabid wolverine" sort of helplessness feeling set in and I got a bit bummed for a while....but you'll rehab quick because of the biking (right muscles supporting things) and be back to yourself real quick....

hang in there.

Thanks. I hope Im back to it quick like you experienced.

Noted. No brown acid.

True. I don't like the fact that I cant run right now. Strange feeling. I dont like walking with a limp either. I feel like week prey. But I walk softly.......
