Tires and Lunch.

Just two questions. Just curious what front tires everyone is using on this trail? Right now I have on a Mountain King 2.2 and it's terrible here, actually I'm not the biggest fan of this tire in general, but I've fallen going 5-6mph around those sandy turns on this tire haha.

My second one is where to find a spot for lunch out here. As in a WAWA, or deli, just something to go and get and come back and put in some miles. All too often I leave home and forget to pack any food, and pay the price 6 miles in.

You want something fast rolling in SJ. I use Geax Saguros and Kenda Small Block 8's.

As for lunch, it helps to know where you are coming from. There arent a ton of options close to the park. Farmer John's is probably the closest, on Nesco Road. You can score a sammich, semi ok pizza and typical convenience store junk there.

Yes to fast rolling. I use Maxxis CrossMark for 29r and Bontrager Jones (they were on sale) for the 26.

Farmer Johns is a good quick stop in Nesco. The Country Cupboard in Sweetwater is another good choice for a quick stop. The Lower Bank Tavern is nice for a meal and a brew. http://www.pineypower.com/lowerbanktavern.htm

That front mile near Batsto is problematic due to the frequent preventative burns in that area (little to no underbrush to hold the sand in place). Our autumn/winter trail maintenance plans include some reroutes to eliminate the unsustainable sections and adding crushed stone to firm up some other sections. We'll be needing help with that crushed stone. 😀

Piney Power!!!

LMAO @ PineyPower! 😀

I'm looking forward to coming down for a ride soon Kurt. 🙂

nothing holds in sand covered turns, try the winter tires with the metal studs or you ever seen those motocross tires with the scoops built into them for desert riding? but of course that would only work in the turns.

I ride Kings (tubeless) and love these tires. Lower you air pressure a bit and you may have to change your weight distribution on the bike.
If you are still wiping out. At least the landing is soft.

Geax

I have been running Geax Gatos on my ss 29er and they are the 2.3. There not the most easy rolling tire but it covers alot for the places I ride. From Nockamixon, 6 Mile, Ceres and Mercer to Allaire, White Clay. They are the tnt ones which are tubeless and they only come in the 2.3 size.
