Tip your LBS

Now that the holiday season is upon us I thought it might be a good time to bring up the topic of tipping. I never used to tip the guys at my local bike shop because i never thought about it. A couple Christmas's ago I saw a bunch of cards from customers and vendors at the shop and got to thinking about tipping. I tip other people around the holidays(barber,mailman...) so why not the lbs.
I'm not very mechanical so i end up at the shop a lot with the usual stuff(brakes, derailleur)and am always happy with the service i get. I tip the owner because I'm grateful to have a shop 2 miles from my house and I tip the guy who spins the wrench on my bike. For folks who do most of there own repairs than tipping may not be much of an issue, but if your like me and rely on the lbs for service than show some love. Be discrete and put it in a holiday card.😀
just sayin
Merry Christmas

Here's a tip:

Customers that bring in a six-pack of something good ALWAYS move to the front of the line...

I purchased some gear at the local bike shop. I slipped him some $ and told hime to buy the shop pizza. I could tell it was much appriciated.

Wanted to do something for my local shop as they did me right the other day.

Beer is good, but you never know if the dude is a drinker.

I was thinking Munchkins but they might be a buncha granola eating hippies!

Cash, but there was more than one guy involved?

Cookies...if I can find something good would ok.

Thoughts? This is over a $5.00 part but they went the extra mile finding it.

taylor ham egg and cheese sandwiches as the shop opens
if they can't eat it because they are gluten free vegan hippies, don't trust them with your bike anyway 😉

Pizza's the way to go. I've called over to the local pizza spot and sent lunch over to the fellas as Halter's before. I think they appreciated it. In retrospect, is a drop in the bucket compared to what your LBS does.

You know - the beer things is always a great idea until you realized you just handed a recovering addict a beer... You never know and I've done it.. But - if you go this route, the rule is.. .if you give a guy a beer, you must drink with them.

Cookies - Always good until you get that guy who is alergic to something or an uptight nutrition junky. F' them. Cookies are great no matter what in my book!

Cash - Since my brother is a mechanic at planet bike in East Brunswick and is always crying poverty, I know those guys need it. I choose Cashola as the best option unless you know the guys well enough to know what they like.

Overall - I agree with supporting the LBS and tipping them guys.

Fresh fruit is always good too. Cut up Watermelon, Pineapple...

been doing bags of apples, pears lately - the bag goes somewhere to be shared.
those sesame and honey snack things seemed to be popular also. Beer for the person I know enjoys it.

been thinking pizza, but see the peeps eating veggie wraps at lunch.

italian cookie basket during the holidays!!!

how about just asking them what they like?

I know one guy in particular used to live on Swedish fish and sugar free rockstar, then he moved to Panera salads, and now he works for Titos burritos.

I almost never wait in line.

EDIT: and dont wait till the work is done.. give whatever you give before the work is done...

Well, I am not going to ask how they like their tea, and I do 99% of my own work anyway. 😉 Frankly I've been mostly annoyed with them but this time they did me right. Actually, it was the manufacturer who made the deal but the shop made the calls. Since it was a couple guys involved I want to make sure I bring enough for the whole class.

Anyway I'm partial to the cookies idea. Who doesn't like cookies? 😀

Thanks!
