Ticks

I had pretty good results last year using permethrin on my clothes and cedarcide on my skin. Planning to do the same this year.

You can get permathrin at tractor supply instructions have the dilutions and 1 bottle will last you a life time and you can even spray your yard with it
They give you dilutions for treating clothes? I saw that it was labeled for landscaping use and didn’t want to mess around with it.

They give you the concentration of the bottle and if you know the concentration for clothing the math is trivial

More permethrin and cedarcide on the way, not looking forward to tick season! I was hoping it wouldn’t be so bad this year since we actually had some cold temps, after the drought in the fall. Though I have no sources to back up those wishes.

This was on the dog march first, they are starting early!

Found one crawling on my ankle yesterday. Was at the in-laws just walking with the dog through their Catskils property. It’s been much colder up there but I’m guessing that it hasn’t done shit to lower the tick count.

I actually had a dream nightmare last night that I was walking through brush and was pulling ticks off my entire body. 😫😳

I freaking hate these things! Did some TM @SixMile this morning ran home around 2:00 and took a super quick shower before heading out to get a haircut. Fast forward to 9:30pm tonight and jumped into the shower to wash away the loose hair and this piece of shit came off the back of my leg with the lather.

If da google machine is correct it’s a female brown dog tick. Unlikely it actually latched on seeing how skinny she is and how easily she came off.

I usually have 2 to 3 every time I do maintenance there. Today just one. As soon as I walk thru the door off comes everything and I run a full inspection. Then throw all my gear in the dryer as high heat kills those little f🤬ers.

What are you guys using for prevention? Granted I have not spent much time in the woods this year with the rain, but I’ve only pulled off 1 so far.

I’ve had Lyme a few times so this is something I try to be on top of. The best stuff I’ve used is a combo of this stuff which comes in a small enough container that you can carry to reapply. It works great for keeping the gnats and mosquitoes away. I haven’t found a tick yet so I guess that’s a good sign?

And I use this stuff on my kit. You need to spray it on and let dry before wearing. It lasts several washes though. So I’ll pick out 2 sets of shorts and jerseys/ shirts and treat
them and just wear them in the woods. This combo seems to work.

Been using a similar approach, but with a cedar oil based spray for my skin. I don’t miss the deet.

It does seem to work though. And I know it’s toxic, but Lyme disease is a really fucked up illness.

Deet isn’t my first choice but I wouldn’t hesitate to use it if that’s all I have.
I agree with all of this. My biggest driver to get away from deet was that I could always feel my skin tingle during my post-ride shower. But yeah it was definitely effective, especially at the “deep woods” concentration.
