wouldn't they just scale up based on number of cases with symptoms?
i'm not sure the demographic is the same - but they got people for that!

Don't know what you mean by "scale up". This is a serological test that shows antibodies from previous infection. The cumulative infection rate based on positive testing in CO and San Miguel County is ~ 0.15%. This suggests a staggering 10 to 1 asymptomatic/very mild cases vs people getting sick enough to qualify for testing.

But you're basing this on a supposition. The testing might be inaccurate. Or it might not. Our news cycle loves to headline the explosive things, like when I saw CNN's headline about needing to homeschool the kids until 2022. They usually fail to mention how accurate that headline may or may not be.

In this case, you can't really run with the argument aside from hypotehticals because it's based on a maybe or possibly. Which, I mean, for a conversation is fine. But I would wager that when all is said and done, the inaccuracy rate won't be quite so bad.

I read an article on PCR testing in UK - accuracy is based on timing. There's a window when you are shedding enough virus to show a positive - miss it (i.e. test too late) and negatives go up.

10 to 1 would be a scaling factor...
1 person with symptoms would represent 10 light/without.

my kids' daycare is closed - and somehow still find it appropriate to charge us a reduced rate. about $350 per month between my 2 kids. does anyone else have kids in daycares that are closed? are they charging while not operating?
Our preschool, which is small, 10 kids in pre-k and maybe 20-30 in preschool, asked for a half payment for April. While I have a contract, the hell if I am paying when they are closing for an extended period. No where in the contract does it say anything about closing for a pandemic. I guess a bunch of other people complained and one parent had already been laid off because of COVID, so they ended up not asking for anything and refunded everyone’s deposit.

Capitalist, Socialist, Nihilist, doesn't matter. Bet your ass this is how all systems work. You can bet at least 1 of your favorite coffee shop, watering hole, small local business will go under, but at least our tax dollars saved millionaire advisor Kudlow's wife's art business. I don't care that her assets make her a safe bet for the banks, any taxpayer (govt) action should go toward those in need, not a millionaire side-artist. I don't deem this post political as this would/is/will happen for either/any party.

I hear what you are saying, but to me, anybody who can get a loan, should go do it. Rich or poor, they all paid into the system. That family may have paid more taxes into the system, than I will make it my lifetime.

No way I would pay, if they aren’t open.

I withdrew my son till this blows over its the hospital daycare so they're staying open we're out our deposit but w.e. I don't want to be out 3500 in my fsa too..
Thee is no way I would pay, if they are not open. I think every employer will be more tolerant of what people need to do in order to make new daycare plans.

If you're that rich why take the money away from someone who actually needs it. SBA will be out of funds today so will stop loans until congress gets off their ass. Too many applications have caused the SBA to limit advances from $10k to $1k per employee. So truly small businesses will get $1-2k, Not really going to help much if they can't open the doors. But the truly rich should take what they could get just out of principle?

I just want to get more data on this before we devolve into a belief system supplanting science, regardless of how well that worked out with Jenny McCarthy & autism.

Multiply this public case by probably hundreds or thousands. Political cronies on both sides with more direct access to the money. They'll probably take the interest free loans and just gamble the market. There's legal and ethical. The two don't always meet.

This is what pops up on PNC now. Since my application is still in the review stage, looks like I'll see nothing.

IMPORTANT UPDATE
Given the limitations on SBA authorized funding and the significant volume of applications already submitted to PNC and other lenders, not every qualified applicant will receive loan proceeds under the PPP. The later an application is submitted, the more likely it is that the application will not be processed and registered with the SBA before PPP funding runs out. As a result, successful SBA registration of applications submitted to PNC on or after April 15th is unlikely, at this time.

Tough call, I hear what you are saying. But, if your husband or wife makes let’s say 500k a year, and you’re the other spouse, and you do 300k in revenues with your small business and you will need the loan to pay you’re employees should you get the loan?
I honestly don’t know what the correct answer is. But I have no idea what that woman’s business looks like, she may need the money to make payroll for her employees, I don’t know.
i also do not know anything about the people mentioned in the article, but It said the guy has a net worth of 2 million(no idea how they would know), in northern NJ, that does not make you truly rich. Don’t get me wrong, I will take 2 million any day, but 2 million net worth, isn’t 2 million cash.
I apologize for the long winded answer, and I will refrain from posting for as long as I can. I am stuck at home and this is my only outlet. In the past, I would just ask about trail conditions or any possible afternoon rides. Can’t wait for that.

Who didn’t see that coming. Luckily (I hope) my application went in on the 11th.

They did say more funding would be sent in a second round if this first stimulus was not enough. Guess what Mnuchin, it isn’t.

I think your posts have been great and you're right in the fact that who makes the call of how to allocate these funds. It's kind of impossible. I'm glad we can communicate our varied opinions and ideas without getting angry or political. Being that She's a local painter, not blowing glass or creating massive sculptures her staff is very likely 0-1 people. What especially bothers me is that her political connections fast tracked her. She's not employing dozens of people and isn't in danger of losing her house or filing for bankruptcy. Her "business" provides nearly 0 benefit to her community. Bike N Gear and his staff are risking their health providing a service that has benefited hundreds of taxpayers diring this challenging time, but since he isn't politically connected, he might not get the same assistance.
