Things that make you frown :(

Over the summer, we spent quite a bit of money to put in a large boulder retaining wall along the side of our property, bordering our neighbor's driveway. I discussed this with him at length, put out markers that we agreed on, and even pulled the wall back further onto my property to ensure that he had ample room for his driveway (the actual property line is several feet into his existing driveway). He had originally offered to help put it in or contribute to the cost but we told him that we'd pay for it, which just seemed like less potential for any kind of awkwardness and problems.

Within a few weeks of it being completed, a contractor working on his house backed into the end of it, knocking a significant amount of the wall loose. Now, these are large rocks that were placed with an excavator and really only fit together one way. We manage to get everything more or less back into place using a large digging bar and three people to help move everything. This morning my wife notices that someone has hit it again. He has a lot of people coming and going working on his house so I'm not completely surprised, although he's had dumpsters delivered, large trailers, and even a shed without any isssue. So it's definitely possible to make the turn without hitting it

. Not sure what to do beyond emphasizing "be careful", but I'm concerned that this is going to happen over and over.

Lawyers. I've had disputes and tried to be civil and keep things friendly. Ultimately I had lawyers involved and resolved the wrong parties actions. They are still here and never speak of their BS and are civil and even friendly to a point.
Get a lawyer to send them a letter stating that more damage will result in legal action. Make sure it states that you will have it repaired, so they don't try to "fix" it and do a half ass job. Sucks, but until that happens they apparently aren't listening to you anyway.

Thanks and don't disagree. I think a lot of it is that on a typical day there are probably 5 different trucks for different companies coming and going and the homeowner isn't necessarily even there. I'm going to move my security cam to cover that area and at least have some evidence if/when it happens again. But yes, the whole thing was a large enough investment (that benefits my neighbor as well) that a legal approach probably does make sense here.

In a prior thread I'd complained about an employee for his company grinding a stump in his front yard and showering my house/cars with gravel from their driveway. Wound up with a number of dents in the side of my, previously quite pristine, car. He did offer to pay for that but I just haven't had a chance to bring my car in to have the entire side of it repainted. Not to mention the hit in value with a partial repaint. Just frustrating when people don't seem to really be that concerned about damaging other people's stuff.

I'm assuming he has an easement for his driveway being several feet in your property?

Not that I've ever looked into/been aware of. It's a weird neighborhood and I was friendly with the previous neighbor so it never felt like an issue. Even now, if I decided to have a problem with it I'm not sure what he'd do because his driveway would be unusable and it's not really valuable space for me.

I would tend to agree with @JerseyPete on getting a lawyer, unfortunately some people tend to take advantage of others' patience and friendliness, so they need to be reminded how things work every now and then. I don't know the whole situation so discretion applies, mine is just a generic comment based on your post. I would check if that driveway is legal too, it may provide further leverage in getting his attention as he's responsible for the actions of his employees or suppliers when on his property (or yours, actually). You're a much better person than I am, I would have responded with catapulted projectiles to the gravel shower he subjected your car to...

Impressive stone retaining wall

sucks....
nice wall too.

Camera.

And throw a couple of upright markers in the end - and maybe a cone while they are working.

Without being an ass - is the end of the wall running into the street setback?
They can run it over all day long if it is.

Well after about 11 years and many many miles my very trusty and reliable Garmin 510 has said thanks for the memories. RIP.

At first it wouldn’t turn on then when I got it up and running it kept restarting. Took the silicone cover off and the rubberized buttons were disintegrated. Thought maybe the power button was stuck but I tried every YouTube trick and combination and it just turns on and then off.

Contacted Garmin support and got a “thanks for your loyalty but we don’t have refurbished replacements for a 10 year old device.” Offered me 20% discount on any new model I want. Sigh. I just used my $250
Best Buy gift card for a new appleTV too.

I still have my spare 810 that works pretty well for now. Just the battery doesn’t last as long as the 510 did.

Guess I’ll be putting a new Garmin on my Xmas list with the kids this year.

I meant to take a picture and attach to this thread yesterday but got tied up. My Garmin watch broke. Was leaning over talking to someone and the watch was barely pushing on my leg and I felt it go loose. The lug for the watch band broke. 😵

Messaged support and I went through the automatic process to send it back and get a refurbished replacement. $130 🙁 Realized afterwards I probably should have pushed support for cheaper or free, but it's much cheaper than a new watch and I was in a rush. I didn't really bang the watch up and feel it should have lasted a lot longer.

Turns out replacement bodies are $20 on Amazon but after my experience replacing the battery on my Edge 820, I don't want to do that surgery, especially on a watch. Mostly frustrating that I now have to go through and re-do all the settings on the new watch when it shows up.

Didn't @rick81721 go through the same thing with his? I think he did a cheap fix.

I thought @rick81721 was on team Wahoo not Garmin? 🙂

I feel so naked without a watch. I almost would have blown the $$ on a new watch except all the current models are meh compared to my 3 year old one (weird screen sizes or too large bezels) except for the $700 Fenix 7s.

You might be right about Rick. Was it the body part or the band part that broke? JB Weld??
Some watches are like a hockey puck on your wrist. Not a big fan of those types. BTW are you still here or down there?

You are thinking about the wahoo tickr armband heart monitor. They keep replacing it when the flimsy band support snaps. Yes still in FL until early Dec. Wifey broke her elbow when we first got here so she had surgery and just started PT.

Body. Plenty of watch bands as I swapped out from the gross silicone one it came with.

Yeah that's my big thing is my watch (245M) has a 42mm case. The newer 255 has a similar sized case but smaller screen. The 955 is a hockey puck. The Fenix 7s has a metal bezel cover which seems to look ok on the $700 model. I'm not buying a $700 watch.

I've had zero reasons to get a newer model outside of wanting the battery to last longer with GPS. Looking for at least 16 hours battery life while running an activity.

The timing is weird too on this. Shipped the watch to Garmin and once they receive it they ship out the replacement. Timing may work out properly as I put the house we're moving into in 1+ weeks in NC...

For the 2nd time in 3 rides I rode through dog poop on my local trails. Also got bit by a dog at Creek 3 weeks ago.

I'm quite irritated with dog owners lately.
I’ve had a few issues with dogs on my road rides and their owners who don’t seem to give a shit whether I hit the pavement or not since I’m on of those annoying cyclists who hog up the road. I kindly remind them that NJ is now a concealed carry state.

Watching the old cow next door dumping the wet leaves from their mosquito producing pond on our backyard. I'll let my wife deal with her when she feels like it, we have too much s&&t going on to deal with it at this time.
