The STRUGGLE bus...let's get some positivity going.

Hey man. Sorry to hear. Shit seems to pile up for some reason but it's the bad times that make the good even better right? I too have had a really shitty winter. Didn't ride much, work has been terrible, my wife's job is killing her, my mom passed, and just haven't wanted to do much besides chill and drink. Thankfully with the warmer weather it's giving me some motivation to get back out and do what I love - whatever it is. I just didn't want to force myself out in that cold shit, and that's not like me. Talking/typing it out definitely helps so keep working day to day. I'm doing the same.

Excellent job posting this up. That is a positive first step.

Multi-faceted scenario that you have described.

One piece of it that I have a lot of personal experience with is the major role that daily exercise plays in my mental health and outlook on life. Seems like in recent years it has been less training for a race and far more training to recovery from some illness or injury. Yet the positive effect has been the same for me.

If you can find some goal ( any goal ) to do some training for I’m thinking after just a few weeks the outlook will improve. If I waited until I wanted to ride before doing so i’d still be waiting.

PS: This time of year is ideal for outdoor training 👊👊

Let's do a 9 month follow up. I feel I have healed up maybe 90% from my head injury on 9/11/2024. What's happened since march. Some stress, lots of healing, covid, wilderness, back to some good fitness, best xc race in years, vo2 max very slowly returning, then I crashed on a stupid curb hop on my road bike about a week shy of my previous injury. Broken scapula, collarbone and I whacked my head. Luckily the head was spared thanks to the shoulder and helmet taking the initial impacts. Healed very quickly somehow working through it all. Plantar fasciitis went away after an injection, got back to running in mid September. Ran a half marathon mid November and a turkey trot 5k on thanksgiving(not a pr but was ok with a 24:30 at 215lbs. 2 weeks later I was feeling great on the bike, highest v02 of the year and something decided to fail on my forefoot on a very simple job.It felt like I stepped on a stone but no stone was there. Initial X-rays are fracture free(I still feel a stress fracture happened). I visit the foot dr Monday so we will find out.

Plan from here. Stay sober, keep stress down, no training until foot is healed, drop wait from 215 down to 190 so I can be ready to do my first year at TSE. Big goals, but structure and consistency are the only things needed to make this happen. Merry Christmas everyone!
