The Guitar Player Thread.

Kirk Economy picks and Legatos pretty much everything. Probably because he was taught by Satriani. He doesn't pick hardly anything.

I Economy Pick pretty much everything. It's just too easy not to.

I like the new Charvel San Dimas line, hard to find one to play around here though.

I’ve been playing Master again because my kids love it, because Stranger Things. I could always play the solo somewhat correct, I get the opening riff and the ascending riff, but could never really get the harmonics and connecting sections in between, but lately, it’s been even more difficult. I played a lot when I was younger, but after college slowed down and stopped when I got married, had kids, etc. During the pandemic I decided to get back into it full bore. Practice every day, relearn how to play, but relearn different, which is the issue. When I was younger, I was Mr. Legato and hammer on/pull off. When I started again in 2020 I decided to try to become Mr. Alternate pick because I like the dynamics and that Yngwie/Nuno/Petrucci/Gilbert staccato sound. Learning to alternate pick properly is like going to fucking gym and learning martial arts at the same time. It’s a bitch for me go back to playing the opening riff of the Master solo properly, or any song where you need to switch between techniques.
Bought this Charvel built in San Dimas new in 85. Still in pristine condition. Hasn't seen much play in the last 20 years. I've had a bunch of over asking offers, even had it boxed up to send, and changed my mind. It's a beauty and plays wonderfully.

That’s a classic, even has the pointy 80’s headstock. Probably sounds amazing, I wouldn’t sell it either.

Yngwie economy picks ascending, alternate on the way down. I still economy pick certain things, but alternate is now ingrained. I’m starting to practice hammering on and pulling off, especially with the first 3 fingers to build that up again.

I bought Chris Brook's Yngwie book and it's pretty interesting. Yngwie's picking is super weird. He Economy picks way more than I thought he would...When I saw him live a few months ago I seriously just stared at what he was doing to see what the hell is going on. It's so fast his fingers almost don't move...He also gets his picking speed by rolling his thumb back and forth instead of moving wrist or forearm. Just try that for 30 seconds.

advice please:

thinking of selling my guitars: fender strat (the cheapy one) and a yamaha accoustic (which i'm less inclined to sell). cases included plus some accessories like an amp (yeah yeah... line 6... i know i know), 1 wall hanger, 1 stand, a bunch of picks, metronome, and possibly a mini pocket amp if i can find a battery to see if it still actually works.

1-- is there any interest in these? (teammates get priority pick)
2-- advice on selling and determining worth?

EDIT: feel free to message me privately

Reverb has them from $500-$700 depending on color. There's what looks like that same Model here...

Reverb asking prices are always inflated. Actual sale prices are around $400.
Throw it on Craigslist for $499 and see who bites.
The Yamaha might not fetch much - probably about $150 max (but I'm sure it's a great playing guitar as Yamaha makes great instruments at every price point.
Line 6 amp - can probably get around $50 for that. It's tough to sell those smaller amps with a smaller speaker.
Or you could do a package deal Fender Strat with the Line 6 amp.
