Bent shaft from rock strike?

i'll check - but it is inconsistent. seems i remember the assembly coming loose a long time back. maybe it has happened again.
Need to check the maintenance on the hydraulic system. It is a commercial mower, so i'm using 1/20th of its rated capacity.

my ztr was down all last year and I've been holding on to it to fix up, push mowed all last season, so that's gotta change
The last engine blew after what I suspect was a cracked cam shaft. Last year, I bought a new engine and installed it, and after engaging the blade, heard a metal rubbing sound and it stopped. It sat all summer in the garage afterwards. With some help, I've diagnosed it to be the clutch. I don't think I torqued it properly when putting in the engine and the clutch likely tore itself up. Anyway, just ordered a new clutch from OX and ready to try again. Engine had some trouble starting up as well, so will check the carb. I'm horrible with anything engine related. It this fails, I'm going to just get a new mower. Too much time wasted.

@qclabrat ,let me know if you decide to give up on the mower and move on. I like projects !

Spent the morning doing the only home DIY activities I do anymore - painting. Finished exterior trim above the windows and around the garage doors. A few more rooms to paint inside and this place will be ready to put on the market.

Anyone interested in moving to beautiful Montgomery, NJ? You'd get a substantial mtbnj discount (i.e cost of realtor fee deducted from selling price). 4th ranked school system in the state, and you can ride your bike to either the sourland mountain preserve or six mile run. And you can ride to the best bike shop in NJ - Halters. Plus all the sourlands road hills are just a few miles away. Sure the taxes are outrageous, but what else is new?

Good point. Hey @C8N , what do you say? Aren't you sick of living in congested north jersey? Sick of living in a townhouse? Sick of people burning down your garage and all your bikes and cars within? Here in Montgomery the only person that can burn down your spacious 2 car garage is you!

Every Halloween, I've said that I was dressed up as a poor Asian. Surprise surprise! I am in fact.... a poor Asian.

Any ideas on getting this inner bearing off the spindle? I had the same problem on the other side and I beat it off with a hammer, this one doesn't really seem to want to budge. I tried heating it up but my little propane torch doesn't have enough heat. I was thinking of using a carbide tipped blade on a Sawzall, I've successfully cut through ball joint studs before using them. However this is going to be a little more cumbersome to tackle with a saw. Any other ideas?

Side grinder?
Dremel with cutting wheel?

Hmm, I have both tools but I think a Dremel would be more precise. Need to find a carbide Dremel wheel. The problem is the surface that the seal rides on is directly behind the bearing. Though I was going to get a repair sleeve for it anyway, so might not be such a big deal.

Get a map gas torch and hammer it off.

+1 small cut off wheel or an old chisel

There's not much as far as attack angle to hammer it off. I picked up a tungsten carbide bit for the Dremel, I'll see if that makes a dent in it at all.

Thought about that too, and I'll try it if I get desperate. It'll need a long jaw and I'm thinking the arms will just flex and pop off. Maybe I'll get back out to the garage one of these days...
You may be able to get a tierod end separator in there and pry it off. Either that or a tie rod puller.(the U shaped ones)

wonder if an air hammer would do it ? should be able to catch the lip from the back with longer bit.
work each side until loose.
