The DIY thread - DIYourself

@Patrick , does it really need the swivel? I've had two different robots and can't recall either having a swivel cord. And they never really twisted up much. Used on 30' above ground pool.

mine ties its cord into a knot - looks like nascar, just keeps turning left.
Maybe i just have a dumb one? always reverses direction with the same turn.

I guess yours needs it 🤣. Mine seemed to go more back and forth than round and round.

I had this one. Looks like the ones for bigger pools utilize the swivel.

i have the polaris 9350 (discontinued, but they all use the same parts) - the guy said it had a swivel, and it didn't. should have brought it back.
things are so expensive - then the parts are expensive, cause should you replace the wheel for $70 or get a new one for $1400 - an actual new cord with the swivel is $300+
my last couple aquabots I kept replacing parts until i couldn't take it anymore! that along with it twisting the cable too.

What ya doing there? Fan support?

yeah, 4" square box screwed up into a wood cross brace (60 years old) - was holding an old fan that weighed 4x the new one.
I couldn't figure out how to adapt the box to the minka aire fan bracket. It had a 2-5/8" (?) mud ring - so pulled that,
and used a device plate - which needed one of the mounting slots extended.
Just threaded in new holes with some stainless hardware to get the size up to specs.

I couldn't get to it from above - and there are 10 conductors in the box - I'd sleep under it.

Did you increase the size of the screws that hold your bracket to the box?

Can't you just insulate it? My duct is metal duct with insulation stuck onto it.

And who cares about codes if you skip permits?...
Probably not cost/time effective to do? I personally don't like the plastic/flexible ducts because rodents have a hell of a good time chewing into them, the sheet metal ones...not so much.

I guess if it comes up during inspection, in case you want to sell the house, you can always claim that it was grandfathered...Frank probably wanted to make the whole system more efficient.

I paid my guy a boatload of Money to replace the central AC/furnace combo last Feb. Kids complain the AC is too cold now after years of it not working well. Worth every penny
