A nice adventure to Stevens road and the Fire Tower.
A long long time ago Stevens road was a town road between Clinton Rd and Union Valley in West Milford.
By the 1960's it deteriorated to a woods road / trail that we used to ride with Dune Buggies.
Now a days it is still rideable by bike. Some signs say Newark Watershed claims it, some say "private, no trespassing".
I actuality North of it is Wawayanda park and the South side of it is Watershed, and the South East is Private.
Now a days it is a rocky unkempt and wet trail. Plenty of stream crossings and down trees.
At the Eastern end an off trail leads to the Fire Tower. Today was a fun ride on the old trail.

Last time I rode up to the fire tower from Clinton Rd there was a lady with her dogs in the private property area, right around the swamp area in your pictures. She was clearly not happy that I was riding through her property. At the time I legitimately didn't know that there was private property up there, so I apologized. But I think there must be a way to get up there from Clinton Rd. without going on private property. The slickrock trail up near the firetower is awesome to ride.

All of Stevens rd is fair to ride, there is private property along the side of the road in places, all South of the road, but the road its self is fair game.
I'm sure people that own land along there don't like intruders, but it's not like anyone is wrecking anything.

Yea, although this lady was pissed enough that I thought I was probably trespassing. That old road must run through their property. In any case, I still think there's a way up to the fire tower without going through the property. I haven't tried it yet, but the red marker on the attached screenshot is how I'm thinking you can do it. Start by going up the fireroad off Clinton (it's got a gate at the Clinton end and a sign, I think it says "Terrace Pond Fire Road" or something) and then take singletrack around the private property and end up at the base of the fire tower road.

I'll try it at some point...
