Tariffs...what to make of them.

Yep... I've noticed coffee prices as well.

For better or worse, I have quite a back-stock as I had a habit of buying a lot when it was on sale whether I needed it or not. At one point, I had over a dozen cans squirreled away. I've also cut down a bit on how many scoops I make per pot. Three now, when I used four. Doesn't seem to affect the flavor too much with the cheap drip coffee maker I set up each night so coffee is waiting for me when I get up. I only make a 4-cup pot each day, which roughly gives me 2 large cups, depending the cup I use. This has been my coffee intake for almost 40 years. I rarely have more.

This article explains why:

Basically: climate issues (droughts in Brazil), labor issues... and minimally - tariffs. Granted... it also says in that article (published back in Jan 2025), that prices would come down in "3 to 6 months" and that obviously hasn't happened yet.

Tariffs on coffee would be more than a bit dumb (unless the main object to revenue...) since I'm fairly certain the only US state with appreciable coffee production is Hawaii and while I understand it is very good coffee, it is also phenomenally expensive to produce.

In the craft coffee circles, Kona coffee isn't even a thing. I have pretty much never seen it available. I always thought it was very overrated, and that was before "this" version of my coffee self.

I've never tried Hawaiian coffee, so I don't know. While I enjoy a good coffee, it is not a necessity to life. In the morning I just need the caffeine.

Eventually I want to get a good espresso machine, but it's not high on the priority list right now.

has anyone tried Jamaican Blue Mountain Coffee

I have roasted my own back in the day, as well as Kona. Both were expensive but of the 2, I thought Jamaican was better. That said, like Kona, it is not a blip on the radar of craft coffee currently.

Way back when the shit was like $40 a pound. I can't imagine what it costs now.

Yea I must have met the same guy. He was on a jet ski cruising right outside of the boundary of the resort. I swam over to him and got a similar bag. I had to leave most of it there…like wtf was I going to do with all that?
We were in Negril. The first time I bought from our driver as my wife thought it would be too dangerous dealing with the people selling on the beach. After a week there she got over that so the next time we bought at the hotel. In Negril they all have a deal with the hotels since it's not technically legal. They stay on the sand towards the water, aren't allowed to come up to the beach chairs. Customer has to walk to the sand. There is one guy who has two large walking sticks. He attaches 2 giant clear Hefty garbage bags filled with weed to each. It's hilarious how much he carries when the tourists buy so little at a time. Oh, and I brought the leftovers home.

Prime day deal. Only $50/lb. Regularly $70. Up $10 from last winter when I checked. I guess the $40 price at the airport was a deal.

Back in the day we were in Maui for a couple of weeks and I had to finish the stash in the morning before flying back to Main Land.

We brought a couple of sandwiches with us for the flight.

Mrs. Oleg - goes "Hey - pass me a sandwich" I say - "Wait till we take off". She says - " we been flying for 30 minutes".

Nevermind the new threatened 30% tariffs on Mexico and the EU, this is why you become POTUS.

In a post on Truth Social on Saturday, trump said: "Because of the fact that Rosie O'Donnell is not in the best interests of our Great Country, I am giving serious consideration to taking away her Citizenship."
