Swimming

Well I went through 4 pages of past threads and no mention of swimming.

Anyone? Tis the season and I have noticed there are nice lifeguarded areas to swim in several of the state parks I've ridden in.

I usually do a couple of open water events every season, my first one might be this month if I can get used to the water fast enough.

I usually only swim if there is no canoe option for the triathlons 😉 I do it but I have no technique and do kinda enjoy it. I think it's more fun to be slow in the water and then fast on the bike and pass the fast swimmers 😀

I swim. I do tri's so it is kinda necessary. It is actually my strong leg. Right now I am one day in the pool, one day OW in a lake. I absolutely love it.

I love swimming too. Open water and pool, I love aspects of both. Which tri's is anyone planning?

Last summer I had a pretty full schedule so this year I am trying to give my family a break , and only sign up for very convenient stuff.

Tentatively planning to be at the Winding Trails off road tri series in CT, starting 6/16...it's a low key midweek series. Super, super clean water.

I find swimming very relaxing, slow or fast. Took a swim class this year to get my technique critiqued. I am happy I can swim with flip turns now. Don't swim as much as I'd like. A month before a tri I will start swimming lots but other than that only couple of times a month. 🙁 I do one or two tri's a year. Done War at the Shore for two years. Hope to get myself to sign up again. GAAHHH

I did the Pine Barrens tri last month( got a flat...grrrhhhh), and my A race this year is Xterra Lake Placid in August. I want to do one more before then, but every race conflicts with a mt bike race this season.

I usually aim for the Wyckoff Tri or the American Memorial Tri(Greenwood Lake NY). It's too bad the W tri jacked their prices up this year as I'm not paying $100 for a sprint tri. I'd rather put that into my 100 miler fund. The AM MEM tri this year is the same day as the Blue Mtn race. I wonder if I can do a double race day?

Double might be a fun challenge, if the timing and geography was right. You are probably joking, but that kind of stuff always piques my interest.

I have done Wyckoff in the past. That is a fun race , the way the town really supports the event. I am checking out the Greenwood Lake race as well.

The series I am looking at in CT is $10 a race..no T shirt no glory though. It's really great crowd . I am guessing anyone who goes there from NJ would not even consider it "mtb"ing though. No rocks!

Rock n Roll girl, I am hoping to do an Xterra event at the end of the summer as well. I will probably head the other direction and do the DirtyEvents one in LI.

Ditto, I just love it. I swim lots of stroke, just for the fun of it, even though I would be a faster triathlete if I concentrated more on freestyle. Oh well it's gotta be fun. Good luck with your season.
