Strictly METAL

Not gonna go out of my way to put it on, but not going to turn it off when it pops up?
Yea, that about sums it up. I keep waiting to hear that song where it all comes back together, but its not happening. I thought after Death Magnetic they were on the comeback trail, but I've resigned myself to the fact that its over. I place most of the blame on Lar's lazy drumming. I mean, an aggressive rhythm section would push more aggressive riffs, right? More aggressive riffs would push Kirk to actually compose a solo vs. the same one he's done 1000 times at the 5th position pentatonic. They have one of the best bassists out there, with the shitiest drummer. Replace him with Lombardo or Portnoy.

Yeah, but I don't listen to Metallica for the musicianship, there's tons of shit out there for that. I just want James to go Yeeeeeee-aaahhhh and Kirk to play jibberish with the Whammy and Wah.

Sadly, it's Lars and Hetfield's band, soooo that ain't happening. Would be cool to hear James in a side project, though. He really is (was) a great song writer.

This debate comes up every time they release something new, but these guys used to be the standard for musicianship in the genre, until that came to an abrupt end in the 90's. I blame the Gibson endorsements for turning them into dad-metal.

This.

I read that at one point they almost booted Lars out of the band, and the reason that his drumming was even passable on the Lightening, Master, and Justice was because of Flemming Rasmussen. As an interesting side-note, Kirk's side-hustle is selling $700 guitar straps, if you're in need of one.

That's true with everything though. Eddie Van Halen used to be the most inovative guitarist on the planet, now they teach Eruption to children in band class.

I'm not a huge Van Halen fan, but Eddy came up with that off the cuff, and few can play it with his attitude and attack. Also, Youtube is full of people that can play other peoples shit perfectly, but very few those people can come up with their own memorable licks that others will someday copy. Also, look as some of Metallica's contemporaries, they're still bringing the heat. Slayers final album was pretty heavy, Death Angel play better than they ever have, and the new Obituary album hits pretty hard.

Saw Death Angel this past fall in NYC and they were friggin awesome. I like them more now than I did 30 years ago.

Pretty awesome that a pic of me made it into the Life of Agony tour photos. As my wife and I were entering Starland Ballroom Saturday night for the Life of Agony/ Sick of it All show, Joey Z from Life of Agony was signing this little girls tour shirt, and I'm thrilled to be part of the moment forever 😃

Without saying anything that will get anyone in trouble, is it as good without those vocals?

Love them or hate them every member in this band has stupid talent. You don’t have to like this genre to appreciate what he’s doing here is insanely complicated…

Yeah just came across this thread somehow.

Over in the guitar thread noted my middle son (20) is currently their lighting tech and he’s on tour with them in Europe since Feb 27th and will be back on April 1st.

Here’s a video they posted from Netherlands I think. he designs and runs all the lights for each venue.

Too much posting, not enough stealing me a guitar. I'll give you an AXS group as payment 🤫

I’ll never forget them playing Stanhope house in Andover years ago which is basically a restaurant that has bands play on the weekends. Imagine having a nice family brunch and then Archspire starts sound checking 😂
