They sure were!

On a angier note, I figured some would find some humor is this.

So my Surly Moonlander I had for sale on here:

http://www.mtbnj.com/forum/showthread.php?t=35276

Well it sold on eBay two nights ago for an astounding $1,751 plus $105 shipping.

Anyway, the nite of the auction the guy tells me it is too late to pay, he would do it in the AM (it takes less than a minute for me to pay on my smartphone with paypal).

Fast forward to the next day, buyer asks for the serial number to check it against the stolen bike database and tells me he needs time to put it on his home insurance before he ships.

I politiely informt he buyer that homeowners will most likely not cover a bike while in shipping, that is why carriers have postal insurance. I did however forward the serial number, but to my advantage I am the original owner with reciept and half of the serial number may be legible on the pictures.

Anyways, I was promised payment by lunch. It never came.

But, paypal emails me this AM, the guy sent me a check through paypal.......a check (WTF, likihood it will bounce IMO is high). After I informed him I would not ship till after it cleared he said he would look into reversing that:popcorn:.

All while he left a phone number to call, which I never did. Still can't figure out whether it is a scam or the guy is just a dult.

Either way I have accepted the Moonie may be staying in my stable, although it would be nice to sell and finance a GPS, but more deep snow is coming, and 5" tires on 100mm rims plays nice with that, at least nicert han 4" tires on 65's.

Hey. I was thinking about putting my 907 on ebay too. Now I don't know. I'm also on the fence since I love the bud & lou on clownshoes for soft/deep snow. Did you get paid in the end ? I think I'll try CL instead. I sold two bikes that way already...

any updates? sucks when it goes round and round. wish i could buy it....

The check is pending in my account, I am sure I will get paid, I just think the guy is not an internet savy shopper. He has been communicating well and has 100% feedback with 122 transactions.

Ebay is pretty good, at least if you are in season. Had I put the bike on craigslist I think I would have gotten about $200 less, and that is after paypal & eBay fees.

Just out of curiosity what does eBay charge?

Really it's kind of frightening just how much trust is involved with these sort of deals. You could deposit his check and tell him to go scratch. He might be able to track you down, or maybe not. So you get negative feedback, just open a new account. PayPal isn't much better, if someone scams you by making the transaction then raiding their account there's not much Paypal can do if there's no money there. Craigslist at least an actual human with a fistful of cash has to show up, although that has its drawbacks too.

I swapped a pair of HuskerDus for a set of Vanhelgas via mtbr recently. Amusingly both of us had tracking numbers to each other an hour after open of business the next day. Reaffirms my faith in humanity a little. 😀

glad it is working out...

these 'larger' transactions are a bit scary. almost worth having a 3rd party involved.

Figure they take 13%, 3% for PayPal and 10% for eBay. If PayPal tells you to ship, they cover the transaction if it goes bad. Best thing to do to protect your tail is be honest as possible, keep all communication on eBay. I have yet to be burned, not bad considering I have sold/purchased almost sixty bikes through eBay and pinkbike in the last 15 years. The majority of people are very honest.

Selling guitars on eBay is a whole different animal. Not looking to do that again.

Employee "Sally" appears at my office door, looking nervous, fists clenched.
Sally: I'm very sorry jefe, I made a big mistake.
Me: What's up, Sally?
Sally: I cut my hand. (Holds up a closed fist, I see a little trickle of blood.)
Me: How bad, do you think you need stitches?
Sally opens her other fist, she's holding two fingertips in it.

911, what is your emergency?...

Wow, good call, I guess I did not think about that:hmmm:

Well, then again, considering that logic, I now know I am not a cannibal. Score!!!!

Yikes. Hope she is ok, maybe they can sew fingertips back.
A childhood friend lost his index fingertip on a belt-driven machine. His mom put the fingertip in an envelope and dr. was able to re attach.

In a serious note, hopefully the finger tips were put on ice. This kind of stuff freals me out.

Just watched the surveillance video footage.
Incredible how calmly she picked up the fingertips from the hopper and walked to my office without skipping a beat. People working right next to her had no clue that anything had happened.

I would have been passed out on the floor pissing myself. Have done exactly that from a less traumatic injury.

Check cleared, phase 2 complete.
