sram gx not reaching 10t

As the title says i have a sram gx eagle setup on my bike, i cant seem to get it to shift into the 10t cog on its own. If i have the bike in the stand and i can push (pull?) the derailleur it shifts onto the gear fine, if i have the chain/wheel off it retracts all the way the limit screw on its own, but when all put together it doesnt like that . . . . . Shifts through all other gears just fine, limit screws appear to be fine (at least arent restricting full motion) and removing the cable doesnt let it shift on its own either.

also put the alignment tool on the hangar, all good in that dept. Also cleaned and lubed up the pivot points and the cable guide pulley . . .

any ideas? fire and axs? (anyone know a shop that has it in stock?)

I think we all know the answer here…

I have had a GX eagle on my FS rig for the last 3 years. Twice I have had to completely reset the cable tension following the instructions to set it back to the 10t, turn the barrel all the way back, disconnect the shift cable, check the offset alignment with from the first little cog to the 10t, reset the cable etc. Each time I thought it was the hanger or something else and ran through all that shit first to no avail. Each time it fixed my shifting issues including once not going into the 10t. I find that the 12 speed GX eagle gets cranky from time to time which is annoying. The 11 speed sram setup on my fat bike has never needed adjustment and I pound it.

You may have already done this but I thought id throw it out there.

Either loosen the cable tension, or back out the high limit set screw

Did both of those with no change. 🤔 even took the cable off to see if it would go, no dice.

You took the cable off, did you back out the high limit set screw? If that didn't do it... Is the hanger loose or bent? The cassette on all the way?

yup, took the cable all the way out, its not hitting either limit screw as i can manually move it and get it to engage the gears, cassette is tight (every other gear engages properly and shifts nice and crisp), iv checked the hangar the tool says its straight . . . .

It almost seems like the spring is stretched and not pulling it down to the smallest cog with enough force.

im ready to just try bending the damn thing (cage) out until it works as intended. Worst i do is break it and have to buy a new one which is what I'm ready to do anyway.

Lol it's why ditched those eagles.
To be fair I never owned anything above a GX but felt like (12 gears) was unnecessary. That's why I replaced every bike (his/hers) to wide range 10spd. Let me know if you need eagle shit.

I wouldn't say no to a spare gx or better derailleur if the price is right

I will say almost 4 years trouble free is a pretty good run imo

I am not familiar with the SRAM design, but I bought a Shimano XT once that had a broken return spring, one of the ends had broken off and it had been repaired (incorrectly) bending the spring where it had broken. It would shift perfectly until the spring was extended enough for the bent end to slip out of the retaining hole due to the increased tension it would not go in the smallest cog any longer. It was a nightmare to figure out until I let my 'take it all apart' instinct to take over. New spring and it shifts like new.

Fire will work too.

Sounds like you're ready to buy a Shimano derailleur then...

no, definitely NO, been there, done that Shimano has its own set of issues, mostly vague shifting, that drive me nuts.

besides, i have all my mtn bikes setup to match so they all shift the same, plus i have a whole bike worth of spares i can swap around to hold me over if i need to wait for parts to arrive.

Yes, shifting vagueness it's a proven Shimano issue, I've seen photographic evidence of it...

For clarity, electronic shifting reports which cog it is in to the bike computer which can be displayed. So by that reasoning, order up the axs or 5 of them

It has surpassed its expiration date 🤣 seriously I get maybe 2 years out of them if I'm lucky the clutch usually starts going out then I just replace
