Splitrock News

not trying to come off like a d!ck, but there are so many trails in there that even *if* those you've cited are only hiking, it doesn't matter at all.

i'll wait for graveyard man or jorba norm to chime in on the specifics.

This acquisition is for basically the shoreline around the reservoir. The previous easement did not include shoreline fishing, so now it will likely be open for that. IN Addition, now that the property is owned by the dep, they can continue with Plans For A $X00K Boat launch to accommodate larger boats. The land would likely be designated as wma and so rules for that land would apply....leave it at that. .....the other surrounding properties, farny SP, winnebago scout camp, camp lewis, smoke rise, camp marcella and nwcdc are not affected and so rules for access remain the same.

interesting. I've done tons and tons of work with jersey city water supply and I never earn thought about that they owned that lake.
it's interesting today that we basically have 10 times the amount of water we need. All summer long the reservoirs are overflowing.
This is the first time I can remember that newark actually tapped into the depth of Charlotsburg. They actually let water in from upstream of Clinton, the first that I can ever recall. But with Jersey City having their water supply down this year for a MAJOR rehab, Newark has been giving Jersey City tons and tons of water.
2 years ago the reverse happened, and JC gave Newark a bunch of processed water. They fed it into that lake you see on Valley Rd in Cedar Grove by Mills Reservation. Problem is that JC uses phosphates in their water purification. And Newark stores FINISHED WATER outside for geese to shit in. Phosphates + Sun = Ecto cooler colored water in the reservoir for everyone to see and panic about. LOL oops, they won't do that again.

Do you know the story about the beaver dam on timberbrook lake that blew out leading nwcdc to think Charlottesburg dam was breaching and as a result ordered butler and bloomingdale evacuated. This was a big deal, if true thousands would have died. I heard, the failure of the beaver dam caused a surge of muddy water to rush across the res and cascade over the spillway. An eyewitness thought the dam was failing and so sounded the alarm. It caused the railroad bed to erode 10 foot deep and 20foot wide. It remains the same now, no improvements and the dam on timberbrook lake is still unimproved.
This was on 3/14/10.
