Spinning

Anyone here take spin classes for training? I was thinking of taking classes in Montclair @ 360 cycle. Anyone ever go there?

spinning is good for fitness and mixing things up but don't expect it to translate well into real world cycling.

The world keeps spinning 'round....

Spinning may not translate into real world cycling but since my riding is 100% restricted to weekends, two spin classes midweek have been key for me ( ie fitness ). I did most of my MTB falls last year when I ran out of juice in the legs and the brain ran out of O2 as well. I hope improving my fitness will reduce that this year. The spin class I go to uses HRM's to tightly control heart rate throughout the session and helped me understand what I need to do in terms of breathing to get my HR down even a short 10-30 second lull. Doing a bajillion "jumps" transitioning from seated to standing and back without hauling on the handlebars is helping me strengthen my knees and get used to standing for as little as one or two pedals strokes.

I'm sure some classes out there a just a bunch of random folks flailing around to loud music so your results may vary ( I would expect to see use of HRM data in more spin classes in the next year or so. It keeps everyone working hard and better informed )
