Specialized or Trek

Hey guys, i was thinkin about getting a specialized rockhopper for around 800 or a trek 4300 disc for 600, or trek 6000... any thoughts that could point me in the right direction

trails i run now are round valley, chimney rock, cheesequake

As the bikes are all in the same price give or take $100 it boils down to fit and components.
I would say the rockhopper would maybe have better components but ride them both and go for what feels the best for you as both frames are good and you can always upgrade the treks fork and derailer if thats what you get.
I ended up with the cannondale F7 and love it I just upgraded the wheelset and Ossie passed me a better crankset so the next upgrade will be a fork when this one dies...
remember no matter what you get ride it as much as you can... that is the most important thing...
BTW all of those rides will deal with the places you ride.
Dualfisted rides a vintage rockhopper ridged at all those spots but then again he is a machine...

At the lower end, buy whatever the LBS that you like the best sells. The deltas in the bikes are small enough that you'd likely not really notice them and are certainly not worth NOT buying and being serviced by a LBS you like.

With that being said, in my *distant* (mid-to-late-80's and early-early-90's) past I've had a couple of Rockhoppers. They were great bikes, so I'm a little biased that direction 😀

Having ridden a bike for years that didn't fit right, I agree with Mike when he said to find one that feels good. Bike fit is more important than component group if you are setting a price limit. I would rather make it over a log with an LX groupo, than endo with XT.

stay away from trek!

bah. their QC is just as good as everyone else. it's the volume they do that puts them in another realm when it comes to failures. i've owned five treks (still have three of them) and have never had a frame related issue.

oh, welcome to here.

it took a while, but here is a pic of the bike

Enjoy it!

I actually like the 6 series hardtail. The brakes look like BB7's. The combo of Trek 4500 hardtail and BB7 that I ride is downright bullet proof. Have fun with it!

Nice bike.

I went threw this looking for a new bike.
I just end up buying a bike over my budget. but very happy. 😛

Have fun man...
