Sourlands Mountain Preserve Conditions

PS 2 trees down on white trail that will need to be cut - one just past marker 9, the other right before the entrance of red to white ~ marker 4.

There's a heavy floor of leaves, and the trails can be a little difficult to locate, especially if you're not familiar with them. On the other hand, that all seems pretty normal for this time of year. It's not muddy at all, and the leaves just have a little slipperiness to them. I still rated it a "4."

Props to you guys that have the tech skills to rip that place up. I got a bit humbled this afternoon. Lots of hikers, but conditions were good I guess. And rocky. Then more rocky

Great conditions today - and not too many hikers.

@J-Dro the fall line trail that was closed a few years ago between marker 7 (big rock pyramid) and the red trail at roaring rocks is getting opened again. It was the only place with mud and people are walking and riding through it - you can see the marker to the right where the trail should go:

Also someone raked or blew all the leaves off that section, as well as parts of red - I guess the bouldering guys

I have personally closed off that section of trail at least a dozen times. Someone has made it their personal mission to move all the debris that I move onto the trail and reopen it. It's a muddy mess and a streambed after any rain as you can see. I welcome any help re-closing it again if you can spare a few minutes on your next ride.

Was planning on going back on monday - will do

Also I notice hikers are even taking the old section that bypasses new shoes - just up from the fence. I'll try to pull some downed trees there as well

Was there today, and last week too. That wet section is the way we always go, it's been the way... Did we miss a reroute? The leaves are not helping with staying on line. Also noticed a new section being worked on at the top of 3 amigos, had the little flags. It only went about 200 yards and dead ended. Some advice for the builder... is work from the middle of the route, and then open the intersection once it's complete.

The trail around that section is hard to see right now from all the leaves - it basically goes through the rocks which is why people are going around it. Maybe I'll try to rake out the section so it's easier to see.

The other section is just a little extension for the bouldering guys. I tried riding it today but once I got to the big rocks said nope and turned around

What rick said. the "easy" way is to take the right line going down - the trail goes between a some of small trees, and there are a couple of rock plates lined up.
very ridable, and sets up the next 50' of tough rocks by aiming at a spine, which is easier to ride than between the rocks.
a few more blazes would do some good there.

it is even tougher to see going up.

good section there - one day i will clean it going up!!!!!

I remember the skinny tree, it was tough to get the handle bars around it without hitting. But.. it's not there anymore?

That side trail was done by Park personnel to reach a bouldering spot. It was meant to simply dead end..... But I had a look around that area today and was reminded of the potential for more in that area. I'll be talking with park management about some ideas.
