Snowpocolypse 2010 post your pics

They cancelled even tonight's Bouncing Souls show at the Stone Pony. Holy crap, 3 days in a row cancelled.

Asbury is still chaotic... even on Main St. and that's the clearest street in town. There are abandoned cars blocking the path of the snowploughs and the tow trucks that were called have been getting stuck on the edge of town. I can see it staying this way until we get close to 50 at the weekend.

I heard even by me on rt280 (which got closed) there is literally a parking lot of cars, trucks took all the people to the mall and movie theater and now none of those people know how to get back to their cars, or where they are. crazy.

Belmar still Snowmenated!

Today's cross bike excursion to search for food in Belmar. We're screwed - I may be stranded at home again tomorrow. Going a little stir crazy. 😡

wish I had pictures of the drama on my street last night.

girl got her car stuck. they spent about 40 minutes trying to get unstuck (and just got more entrenched).

then the Einsteins had the inspired idea to use a big SUV to push her car up the road. I think they very quickly realized the stupidity of that idea after ramming her car a few times with no results.

then the cop came.

he must have called in the plow...it did no good.

then the tow truck came....and got stuck as well, about 100 feet short.

then the second tow truck came and brought out the chain and dragged her car 100 feet up the road, somehow braking off her spoiler in the process.

in all the drama took about 2 hours. it was like watching reality tv. found out today that some of my neighbors were watching the same show 😉

hopefully the young woman learned a lesson: her stupid decision to drive her small sedan around last night cost about 1.5 hours of a cop's time (should been spent on more important matters); a plow; and two tow trucks + the personal costs to her [tow charges?, broken spoiler, and possibly a ticket (I heard a rumor that Middletown cops were issuing tickets for driving in the State of Emergency]

still no plow in Shark River Hills, Neptune other than Lakewood ave and Brighton Ave. Blasted out on the bike to check out the hood. Hey, it was like riding in the sand at Allaire! A couple pics. Entrance to 18, not! Road at camp evans.

So what are you guys in Monmouth County paying for property taxes? I wonder if this is a big middle finger to Christie for cutting funding. And I could care less if he's in Disney world.

The Christie controlled state roads are all fine. Hell 280 is 100% DRY
The towns are the ones that are all F'd up, that's your mayor's fault, not your governor.

If all towns were 100% prepared for the worst case scenario all the time, taxes would suck even worse.

I don't want to pay for my town's preparedness and your town's unpreparedness.

It snowed, it does this every single year. Your town should be able to cope with that. If we had an earthquake I could understand, we aren't supposed to have earthquakes and should generally not bother preparing for one.

Still not plowed. That's it, I'm moving to Rumson! Now, if I could only figure how to get out of here. I did ride the bike last night with the lights around the parts of the neighborhood that were plowed though. That was cool.

that's your mayor's fault, not your governor.

The governor slashed state funding to pretty much every municipality, so the municipalities have to find ways to fill their budget deficits. Which means layoffs and restructuring, which in the public sector is really not easy as I'm sure everyone knows. In the end, it leads to crap like this. I wanted to clarify my statement, even though this is going to derail the thread too much, my apologies 😱

And BTW, I agree with the cutting of funding....lay everyone off and re-hire them under real world terms...like accountability for your job/actions, real world pay, and real world benefits.

Also, NJ having so many damn little municipalities doesn't help. Condense the 53 municipalites in Monmouth down to 30 some and you cut out salary for 20 some majors, police cheifs and any kind of "upper managment". Any non-corrupt state would have done that years ago.

Bergen, Monmouth and Morris (borderline) are the main offenders.

Word. Wasn't Christie trying to encourage this? Please don't get me wrong, I'm not a Christie whore (I don't know anything else about him, and no I don't vote anymore either....I plead the Carlin) but I think he took a big step in the right direction.

Asbury getting this much snow....I dont care who the governor is, or what the budget is....they DONT have the snow removal equipment to deal with it. Bottom line. There was no way this wasnt going to happen. Snow removel is STUPID expensive. You can pave roads for nearly what it costs to remove snow from them. Shore towns choose to spend their money elsewhere.

anyway...

If you want to leave the main streets here in town snow shoes are still your best bet.
