They (like the XTR bottom bracket) are labyrinth sealed, so...yeah, they don't really suck.
Consider making sure your frame's shell is faced, as bearing life usually suffers on external bottom brackets if they aren't properly aligned. Ironically, this is one area that press-fit bottom brackets tend to do better.
I bought one way back during the beginnings of Covid, because the BB93 XTR wasn't available, and it's continuing to work just fine. I don't ride in the rain on purpose, but I do occasionally get caught out.
