Shenandoah Mountain 100 Race Results

I came in at 11:42. I think Karen passed me at station 6. That last fireroad climb just got to me mentally. I was like 'Jesu Christo - do we have to do this again?? :drooling:'.

A great race in all though. Would highly recommend it. But you need to be in shape to enjoy it. Support during this race is absolutely outstanding. And the meals pre and post race was really good too. And I met my mtb idol Chris Eatough!! With a photo to proof it 😀

BlackBean, was that you stopping for cocktails? I didn't need to stop, guess I missed martini hour 😛 Yeah that last climb, which we already did once earlier, is a killer.

True but I was more confused with how much more it climbed after you made the left at the top. I thought I was in for a lot more so I conserved more than I needed to on that last climb.

Totally off topic, but i read about your climbing issues(29vs26) Let me apologize in advance for even thinking you have a granny ring, but if you do and you are using it you have to go up to at least a 24t on a 29r to get any efficiency.Hope to ride w/ ya soon............

Yea I've got the stock 22t on there. I'll have to give the 24 a shot.

I make a point of stopping at each rest stop, even if it's just for a minute or 2. I've blown myself out a few miles after not stopping at a rest stop. Sucks to almost finish a race. I eat until I drop at each stop and then get on again. Besides, they had Coke at aid stations 4-6. I really craved it at the stops. I used to go on 20 mile rides with a foot long sandwich in my camelback...I like!

Lucky you, I can't eat real food and ride. I can only do liquid nutrirtion. I just have to ignore all that great looking stuff at the rest stops.

I try and keep all the food I'm going to use on me and only supplement that if I need with stuff from the aid stations. That way I know I have what I need to finish the race and it's all familiar stuff.

Yes, it is always best to go with what ya know and what ya train with. I use custom blended InfinIT Nutrition exclusively.

I used 2 different formulas in the SM100; my basic long distance nutrition that provides me about 200 Cal/hr, sufficient electrlytes that I don't need to supplement unless the temps are in the 90s+. It also provides 3 g protein/hr. My other formula is the same with added caffeine/serving @ about 1/2C coffee equivalent. I used 2 servings between stations 2-4 and 2 servings just after station 5.
