Security Camera System Recommendation needed ASAP

Arwen's Mom

Mother of Dragons, Breaker of Chains
I actually want to get one and get it installed by end of today, so if you can give some advice what to look for, what brands/types to avoid that would be swell. Home owner installer friendly is a plus.
dont care how it records (disk, tape, cloud, whatever) dont care if can or can not monitor from smart phone. Just need to get something in place. Indoor and outdoor with emphasis on outdoor.
Had 4 "items" stolen from back yard in last 4 weeks 🙁
SCUM!

By son is buying it and can go a few hundred for the set plus I can toss in a couple too.

Thanks.

they have them at HD....????

is it going in a window, or being mounted outside?
is the area lit, or does it need 'night vision'?

Cloud backup is a must. I watched Jessica Jones and they kept deleting incriminating footage that was stored on a local server or computer. I don't know if your items are being stolen by someone using mind control, but unless you get cloud backup, you'll have a hard time proving Killgrave's powers.

Are you trying to deter (e.g. flashing lights and loud noises) or just record the act? Do you want a system that will call the police if a window is broken? Well placed cameras should catch you backyard thief in the act.

Don't know if you have Comcast catv but I was just talking to them the other day - they have a security system that can include cameras. We currently have ADT (no cameras) and it sounded like Comcast is significantly cheaper - will probably switch

Easiest/quickest would probably be the Nest cams from home depot but they are pricey at $200 each, and according to a review you need to subscribe to their service for the "history". I have zero experience with them so IDK what that means.

This might be worth a look, doesn't seem like they're wireless though. FYI anything "wireless" will still need to be wired for power, so keep that in mind. If your son can run and connect CAT5 cable (ethernet cable) then this will probably do what you need:

I had one wifi camera set up at my old place which was a panasonic indoor unit. Worked well, but you typically need some computer/networking knowledge to get these things running. With the "smart" market the way it is things may be easier now. Good luck.

Good points. You may want to consider building a punji stick pit - cut out the middleman (cops)

Call these guys. Back in the day someone was steeling my cattle, turns out it was a huge inter-state operation by some mercenaries hired by the mayor, but I won't get into that. Either way, these guys figured it out and I didn't have any more issues.

If you have a problem, and no one else can help, maybe you should hire them?

clubber lang tougher than baracus?

either way, i pity the fool...

do you have motion sensitive lights?

yes to motion lights
Think its a neighbor because with all the traffic at my house (there is always someone coming or going), they would need to know our schedules very well to snoop around undetected.

Johnny, thanks haha
But having your space violated and prized possessions (especially live ones) stolen is not a funny matter at all.

Thanks everyone for the recommendations so far, my son will be reviewing them through the day a people post up. Thanks everyone for the support.

Said scum better pray I never catch them in the act.

Costco has similar for less, though wifi is quickest and if you are wiring it will likely tip of the perps
