Route over GWB to Bronx

If you spend enough time on Craigs List, you'll find beater bikes come up once is a while for $20-30. They usually need some work like change in tires & chain & bar tape. And lube up everything. Or maybe do the Walmart thing: http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=13059505

I have an old JCPenny 10-speed sitting in my garage all taken apart .. been meaning to put it together so I have something to ride in when I want to lock up my bike in NYC.

It gets bumpy sometimes, but I haven't had too much problem riding my good road bike in NYC .. but it's not like I do it everyday .. and usually it's early morning when there's not much cars around. I would never lock it up in the city though.

Ya the only place I will be locking it up (if I do buy a cx bike) is in the basement of the on campus Fordham parking garage behind all the maintence vehicles.

Becareful with the garages too .. when I was in college, I used to live in an Apt building in Boston with an underground garage which you need card key access to. I locked up my neon green bmx bike there with a cheap combo lock, and it was gone within 1 month. Bike thieves know where to look.

May be better if there's maintenance people around there regularly. Check to see what kind of bikes are already locked up there & maybe ask some maintenance guys how safe it is.

On my way back from NYC today, I was checking the parking signs along the Hudson Terrace:

There are 200 yard stretches w/o Resident Permit parking signs, but eventually, you'll see a sign. Residents with permit can park for 48 hours, everyone else can park for 2 hours. I'm not sure how thorough they are with checking.

Other than that, there were some meter parking just North of the GWB. It's a 9 hour meter that ends at 6PM. So if you are in a hurry, that's an option.

Also, there is a little park to the Western side of Hudson Terrace. There is spot for about 6 cars there. Cyclists are parking here. I'm pretty sure it's free (maybe some kind of loophole since there is no signs there). The spots get taken up quick though .. By 7:50AM, on my way back, the last spot had just been taken up.

I think Bayview Ave is technically the start of Englewood Cliffs, so that puts you pretty close to the bridge. Still haven't check Municipal lot yet, but my hair is growing longer so I'll probably get there in the next week. The offer to park in front of my house still stands.

Sounds good i have a lot of options. 9 hours would definitely be fine pretty much everyday. Ill be getting there before 750 so Ill probably check out the free spot first. Thanks for the advice and checking that stuff, very very big help.
