I'll be upgrading to disc brakes over the winter (probably BB7s) but I'm not sure what size rotors to buy. I know larger rotors will give more stopping power.
If stopping power is one of your concerns, I'd look into getting a set of Juicy's instead of BB7's. A Juicy with a 140mm rotor will be twice as powerful as a BB7 with a 180mm. Over the years I've found rotor size has very little to do with raw stopping power. Running a smaller rotor with better pads and hoses will keep weight down and give you tons of power. For example, I run Juicy Ultimates with 160mm rotors and Swiss Stop pads. I can lock my wheels up at any given moment, at any speed, on any terrain, anywhere
