Richmond World's 2015

Is anyone else making the trip down here? I am on the fence and I feel like it is a missed opportunity given that it has only been in the US once, 29 years ago, and will likely not be within reasonable driving distance ever again.

Super-tempted, but most likely will stay local for Ludovici CX (Hippo CX). Do you know which day the women's race is being run?

Saturday. Oddly enough Hippo cross is so local, I was going to do it. Now I may drive a total of 10 hours to WATCH a race 😕

Being that the course favors the classics guys makes it even more appealing. I am just wondering how much of a cluster f it will be navigating around Richmond, especially considering I will likely bring my son.

That's pretty cool! I assumed it was CX Nationals for some reason, not the road world. That would be something to see for sure. Thanks for the need's up!

The only interesting racing lately. Also fewer idiots named Danielson. Or Horner. Not that Horner was gonna be there anyway...
Who the F roots for someone from the US? OMG, what a come back for Phinney to win on the road here. How cool would it be to see Sagan actually win something. Wait, is anyone else even from the country he is?

Sagan is Slovenian (IIRC) but he understands and sounds Italian, so maybe he can free-lance off the Italians.

Phinney would be amazeballs! As for the Italians, even when they get it right, they f*ck it up. Ballan! (Of course I'm ignoring Bettini's wins. And Cipo. Oh, hell, nevermind, they might do it after all.)

Yes, Slovenian, he will have to surf wheels but that is nothing new.

So will Thomas and Stannard have to ride for Cav? The hills may be alittle punchy for Stannard but maybe not for Thomas.

Can Degenkolb or kristoff top off an amazing classics season with the rainbow stripes?

A good friend of mine was discussing going down. Seemed like a great idea as Richmond is an awesome town. Few issues I found:

1) Costs are insane. Everything is booked. AirBNB places are either all booked or incredibly expensive. It's a city but I think this is such a huge event that just the teams, their support and the media are a lot of people taking up space.
2) Pearl is pretty correct. Driving really far to watch a road race is pretty boring. Granted I'm sure there's a lot going on that's kind of exciting. I was thinking about how boring the Time Trial down monument ave (extremely expensive places to stay, everyone is renting out their homes) but it's probably way better with everyone on their front lawns drunk as fuck.
3) No riding. The town is going to be mobbed. I'd say it would be more exciting going down a week before and biking the routes where everyone else was going to be riding. Riding bikes > Watching people ride bikes.

All valid points. Getting in a hotel in downtown is where the cost is at. Note that "Richmond2015" took the booking for a huge number of hotels and you book through them. Bummer part is that the no cost cancellation is August 31st and they will nail you for 1 night. But still, considering each country probably bought out a quarter of each hotel in the downtown.

Ironically I will watch most of the race on a jumbotron but want to get the whole experience given that it is Worlds and not the Philly Pro Race.
